    This word, αντίο, troubles me, cause we have it in romanian too, but the meaning is "good-bye forever" the last good-bye.... We have another word we use for "Good-bye"- "la revedere" which is far more optimistic cause "revedere" is the noun for ""when you see somenone again".

    la revedere , exists also in Greek ... "στο επανιδείν" ...

    αντίο ... is from French "adieu" ... literally "to god" ... as you know !!! ... "con dios" ...

    Greeks use "health" to say "hello" AND "goodbye" ... "Γεια" ... ...

    It is to be used with friends/family/people you adress in second person singular.
    Never to be used in a formal context.
