I remember only parts of the chorus. It was one bass voice starting out:

"A gone gone gone, she been gone so long, she been gone gone gone, she been gone so long"

Then a tenor comes over the second time with:

A gone gone gone, well I wonder if I'll ever see her again...."

And then some other tenor parts added too.

And then I think it comes to a unifying part where all the voices sing at the same time:

"My Girl! She is the best to me!.....My Girl!

That's all I got. If it helps, I heard it on a college radio station in Binghamton, NY. TIA

I can only assume it is "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" by Chilliwack.

A-Gone, gone, gone, she been gone so long
She been gone, gone, gone so long (twice)

A-Gone, gone, gone, she been gone so long
A-Gone, gone, gone, gone so long

Gone, gone, gone, she been gone so long
Well I wonder if I ever gonna see my girl (twice)

Ever since she left me, I sure feel all alone
A little misunderstanding, I can´t get her on the telephone
Hangin´ on down the mainstreet, livin´ in a different world
Standin´ around with the gang on the corner talkin´ about my girl

Wikipedia says it was out in 1981! It is also on Chilliwack's Greatest Hits if you are looking for a CD.
