Default Song for a friend to many that is leaving

I am looking for any suggestions that I can get so that I can choose the perfect song. A fellow female employee is leaving our organization after being here for 10 years. We provide services for people with disabilties. She has impacted many peoples lives both supported and fellow employees. She is loved by everyone. We are making a picture video and want to express how much she means to everyone and how sad we are that she is leaving. Please submit any suggestions you may have so I can start deciding.

    Thank You very much,

    CEV

A bit of a challenge to narrow this down since I don't know your friend's age or music genre preference. I prefer music from the 1970's (high school and college years) and therefore most of my suggestions wll fall in that period. Some of the following songs are not "mainstream" and may not be familiar to everyone. Others may be too sappy and/or "love songish".

There are numerous other songs you can find that may be appropriate based on her first name or where she is going.

"Old Friends" by Simon & Garfunkel
"I'll Follow the Sun" by THE BEATLES
"Here, There And Everywhere" by THE BEATLES
    "Hello, Goodbye" by THE BEATLES
"All You Need Is Love" by THE BEATLES
"The Long And Winding Road" by THE BEATLES
(I'm not really a big Beatles' fan, it's just that they wrote so many songs)

"Always On My Mind" by Elvis Presley or Willie Nelson
"On the Road Again" by Willie Nelson
"You've Got a Friend" by Carole King (covered by James Taylor)
    "ANTICIPATION" by Carly Simon
"NOBODY DOES IT BETTER" by Carly Simon
"How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) by James Taylor
"Long Ago And Far Away" by James Taylor
"Shower the People" by James Taylor
"Leaving On A Jet Plane" by John Denver (or Peter, Paul & Mary)

"Bless The Wings (that Bring You Back)" by The Moody Blues
"Evening: A Time To Get Away" by The Moody Blues
"Our Guessing Game" by The Moody Blues
"The Afternoon: Tuesday Afternoon" by The Moody Blues
"You Can Never Go Home" by The Moody Blues
"Emily's Song" by The Moody Blues (one of my all-time favorite songs)
    __Take me into your world
    __Alone I can not go
__For I’ve been here so long
    __You’re leaving me behind
    __Walk with me now
__Into your land of fairy tales
__And open up that book of pages in my mind
__And open up that book of ages in my mind
(yes, I am a big-time Moody Blues fan)

    and some newer songs
    "True Colors" by Cindy Lauper
"Time After Time" by Cindy Lauper
"A Day Without Rain" by Enya (instrumental)
    "Only Time" by Enya

For the grand finale', the chorus from an old folk song my third grade teacher taught me...
"There is a Tavern in the Town" by F. J. Adams, 1891

Fare thee well, for I must leave thee,
Do not let this parting grieve thee,
And remember that the best of friends
    Must part, must part.

Adieu, adieu kind friends, adieu (yes, adieu)
I can no longer stay with you, stay with you,
I'll hang my harp on the weeping willow tree,
And may the world go well with thee.

There is a Tavern in the Town - Midi and Lyrics - Smick and Smodoo's World - midi, lyrics, karaoke, kids, coloring book, games, jukebox, pokemon
(above website will let you down load the "Tavern" song)

I'll keep looking for some more current songs...

Most Billy Idol songs have very rough "edges"; the softiest one I could find is "Blue Highway"
