Question 1950's public school song lyrics

I went to school in Los Angeles. I think about 1955 or 1956, I learned a song and I can not remember the title only a few broken phrases. I hope someone can help me.
...."how i wish that i could be, where the fresh sea winds are sighing, where the tides run swift and free, in my homeland where i am going....." another phrase is....south sea islands i have seen, heard the artic glaciers thunder.....all have filled my heart with wonder...."

My memory of about 50 years ago is a little clouded, but I would love to know all the words to teach my grandson who is five.

Question I need lyrics to 2 songs from '50s in Los Angeles public school

The lyrics to the MOUNTAIN TRAIL song go:

There far above me, in brightness beaming, I see the mtn.peak is gleaming Thru woods and fields of mtn flowers, we climb w/hearts so glad and gay, Beyond the windswept rocky towers, forever higher leads our way.
    Follow me, up the trail
    Follow me, climbing high
    We shall find journey's end
When the long trail meets the sky.

The lyrics to SMOKE TREE TRAIL are foggier:
Oh give me a trail, that winds along, thru the sage and the smoke tree land,
Oh give me a trail,........................... where the wind caresses the sand.

    Any Clues, please ?

How I wish that I could be
Where the fresh sea winds are crying
Where the tide runs swift and free
    And above the seagulls crying

South sea islands I have seen
    Heard the arctic glaciers thunder
    Mountain peaks and castles fair
All have filled my heart with wonder

Oh but dearer far to me
Are the hills in sunset glowing
    Evenings bright with countless stars
In my homeland where I'm going
