I am American...and my understanding of the Greek language is very limited.
I heard this song when last visiting Greece Perhaps it is a children's or "folk" song, something about "let your hair down". If any one would be willing to help me out...I am hoping to find the lyrics in Greek and a literal translation into English. Any history of the song would also be benificial.

    A "Thank you" in advance.

    Here you are

Άστα τα μαλλάκια σου --- Τόνης Μαρούδας & Τρίο Κιτάρα (I know it sung by Giannis Parrios)

Let your tender hair fall down in a mess untidy
let it blow wildly in the southern wind
Now that your adolescence is in youthful full bloom
Let your tender hair fall down in a mess untidy

Look at the extensiveness of the deep blue sea
and let your hair blow wildly in the southern wind
Let your tender hair fall down in a mess untidy
let it blow wildly in the southern wind

Now that spring already arrived summer will soon come
and fall will then soon after come in a gloomy mood
on your shoulder foolishly my hand I was extending
Now that spring already arrived summer will soon come

They will tell you a thousand times a thousand I love you
and fall will then soon after come in a gloomy mood
Let your tender hair fall down in a mess untidy
let it blow wildly in the southern wind

A time regrettably will come listen to me too
that you will not have red lips red lips like fire
You will have your hair then nicely combed and tidy
A time regrettably will come listen to me too

That this sparkle you have now in your eyes will burn out
and you will not have red lips red lips like fire
Let your tender hair fall down in a mess untidy
let it blow wildly in the southern wind

The translation is taken from stixoi.info: Καλωσ&#207 ;ŒÏÎ¹ÏƒÎµÏ‚ and I don't know how literal it is. But I'm sure someone will check it and point at the mistakes if there are any.

the lyrics of this song is by Alecos Sakelarios a very famous play writer and director of movies too but i cant remember who wrote the music. Sakelarios has directed Aliki Vugouklaki (Greece's ever loved movie star) in some of her biggest hits like for example Aliki in the navy or "Xtipokardia sto thranio" or "to ksilo vgike apo to paradeiso"

Thank you all very much for the information.

I first heard this song played by an eldery gentlemen on what I would call an accordian.. My friends there said they used to sing it when they were young ( I got the idea it was when they were 13 or 14) It was a special time and a special place for me...it stuck in my head..and I have always wanted to know more about it.

My visits have made me understand why you all love your country so much. I am not a vastly travel person, and I live in a rural area in the US. Athens is the only city of any size that I have ever really felt comfortable in, either in Europe or the US.

    Thank you again!
