Default Yallah Şofer - New translation

    Hello there,

I've been absent quite a while (a lot of business trips lately( )

Please, I hope no one takes it wrong, but I've noticed that the translation for "Yallah Şofer" is kinda wrong both ways... The English translation has some flaws, BUT the Turkish Lyrics available on the internet are also pretty wrong, since the song is *not* in Turkish per se...
OK, I mean "Istanbul Turkish", but in the Iraqi dialect of Turkish, (to which I am very interested by the way) which is closer to Azeri than modern Turkish...

The song belongs, if I am not mistaking, to the defunct 'Abdülwahab Barğaş (عبد الوهاب البرغش) known in all of Iraq under the his scene name "Haba".
It's also one of the songs, together with many other Iraqi songs, that made İbo the man he is today...

Anyways, enough of that here go the Lyrics:

Yallah şofer yallah, ne bekliysen? - Go, driver! What are you waiting for?

Yüregimde ğam ekliysen! - You are adding sorrow to my heart!

Heç Allah'tan qorqmıysən, - Have you got no fear of God?

Meni yolda bıraqıysən! - You are leaving me on the road! (ie: "you are abandoning me")

Yallah şofer yallah yitir meni! - Push it, driver! Bring me there!

Yallah şofer yallah apar meni! - Dash it driver, take me!

Kerküç'e de yitir meni, - Bring me to Kirkuk! (The city in Iraq, pronounced "كركوچ" in the Iraqi dialect)

Yârımın gözü yoldadır, - My lover has eyes on the road, (ie: "is longing for my return")

Ewleri çay üstündedir! - Her house is on a river, ("Çay" in the Iraqi dialect means "river" as in "Diclə çayı")

Yallah şofer yallah apar meni! - Push it, driver! Bring me there!

Yallah şofer yallah yolda durma, - Go, driver! Don't stop-over!

Bir sa'ât yolu beşte bitirme! - Don't you finish a one-hour-road in five! (Notice how he pronounces the "ع")

Ayağıñ ğazdan qaldırma, - Don't you lift your foot off the throttle,

Gecey üstüme geltirme! - Don't you bring the night on me! (Don't bring us late!)

Yallah şofer yallah apar meni! - Push it, driver! Bring me there!

Epilogue: There is a whole "Turkish" culture in Iraq (and also in Bulgaria) that is both independent from and unknown to Mainland Turkey... These people have their own Culture, complete with their own cuisine and own music with their own artists, own composers, own hits etc. that mostly never make it to Turkey (although, some, like this song, did in some way enter in the early 80's through the Iraqi border )

On the other hand, a big majority of Turks in Turkey are also completely unaware of (and mostly uninterested to) these people, unaware of cities like Tel'âfer & Kerkûk (or Filibe & Kırcaali) that have a Turkish majority -as you could see above, where no one until now could tell where the "Kerküç" of the song was located-...

Anyways, this double-sided ignorance is actually good for something: Art!
Since the Turks of Bulgaria or Iraq are not at all influenced by the mainstream style of Turkey when creating something, they create it "their own way"!...

Anyways, I hope I did not bash your head with that small sociology related topic...

    Enjoy!!

    Emir Ali

PS: Is there a way, dear admins, that we could change the actual name of the thread to "Yallah Şofer" instead of "Need help turksih pleaaaaasee!!!"...? Thank you!
