Italian is the only official language of the whole territory and every Italian speaks the same Italian. Then there are a few other languages: the most important is Sardinian (that is a latin language just like Italian, French, Roumanian, Portuguese and Spanish) that is spoken in the only Sardinia Island (where I was born and live).

About the Italian being the only official language, try to say that to professor in the univercity that used to talk in dialect (dialetto stretto), and I was in the first semester so my language skills were not so strong. Differences between south and north do exist. I don't think that you ever had to stay out in the rain or cold or whatever to wait for the bus for more than half an hour. That doesn't exist in the north. You never had to walk in smelly streets, not only by the garbage. In the city I were saying: "why does everyone look down when they walk??? Because they have to always pay attention where they step on."

Tzina, I don't know your professor, but I am Italian 100% and I know my country. The only official language in Italy is Italian. Then there's a different language in each region, but that doesn't mean that they're official languages. If your professor used to talk to you in "dialetto stretto", he was a boor. That doesn't mean that everybody here is a boor. Try and think that: if a person from Trieste and one from Palermo have to talk... do you think they'll talk in Friulano and Siciliano? Or maybe in Italian, so they can communicate in their national language? We're all Italians, we all speak Italian. Dialects are used like a slang, with friends, family.
Sardinian is a language, not a dialect: it has its own grammar, syntax and everything and quite every Sardinian person speaks Sardinian language: we're bilingual, just like Belgians with Dutch and French, but if you are a stranger and you come to Sardinia, we all speak Italian, because Italy's official language is Italian and you might understand that language, not Sardinian.
About the differences between Northen and Southern Italy, I was talking about the language, not about the time you wait for the bus.
About all the things you said (smelly streets, busses late and so on), I don't know where you have been, but I can make you sure that my City is in the South (Sardinia) but the streets are not smelly at all, the busses are punctuals and so on. I am sure that even in Greece there are places where you could have to wait for the bus, or you don't smeel roses in the air and so on. In Italy we say "tutto il mondo è paese", and that means that you can find everything everywhere. Good things and bad things: in Italy, China, USA, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Poland, Russia, Sweden and so on.

Süperstar,I know the difference between official language of a country and dialects (we have them too). I was in Bari, it happened many times to me to go to public places and people were talking to me with words in dialect (I already knew what they meant so I had no problem, apart the market were it took me 3-4 years to understand what awant means). About all the things I said (smelly streets, busses late and so on), those are things that Italian friends of mine told me. And why every young person I found under the age of 30, they all wanted to go to the north??? I don't say that here in Greece things are better, but just that in Italy the people in the south feel like that many times (many things are to blame for that, including the mafia).
I had a Sardinian friend (his parents were Sardinian but he was raised up If I remember correctly in Bologna) although I asked him several times he always referred to the Sardinian as a dialect. Most probably that's why whenever I asked him questions on the Sardinian he was trying not to respond(he knew nothing about it).

Maybe he thaught it was a dialect because he was born and grew up in Bologna, but believe me: Sardinian is a neo-latin language, just like Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian

Oh well... I don't really know the song, but I read the chorus, and I think it's about an unsecure boy. He "vuole bene" to the girl but he's not sure that his affection could be love.

To tell you the truth even if I'm Italian I don't listen to Italian music... I prefer Türçe or Israeli :-P

I don't believe that 'grudge' and 'rancore' mean the same thing exactly, 'resentment' is more close to what rancore means

The second line begins with the first person, and because they are connected, in the previous line the verb was also at first person.

So, in English should sound like this :

Even though I can't stand your smell any more

As Lady_A said the IO pronoun is an implied pronoun (I'm Italian, I know what I'm saying...).

Furthermore, rancore is literally and semantically "grudge". Resentment is correclty translated as risentimento, and vice versa risentimento is correctly translated as resentment.
Rancore is a strong feeling of anger, just like grudge.

Nice translation... and I loved to know how "ti voglio bene" and "ti amo" are different in usage.

This song talk about the end of the friendship between Tiziano and a male cousin of him.
He said it in an interview some years ago.
The chorus meaning is that Tiziano didn't understand why their friendship is not like some years ago but is full of secrets now that he is famous... he saw this change in the relationship...

i'm half italian so i know the difference between "ti amo" and "ti voglio bene"


ti amo is i love you, but only for a boyfriend or girlfriend etc.

ti voglio bene is also i love you (or, as italians shorten it to, TVB) but it's only used for friends and parents etc.
