Well the moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived,...
I need help with a song (actually it's my second posting).

The 1970's song I am looking for has a lyric similar to "can't take the ride no more". I thought it was by Boz Scaggs but I can't find one of his songs that is a match.

The lyric is not "Can't take IT no more" so it is not one of the following songs:
"I Can't Take it No More " by Kurtis Blow
"I Can't Take It (No More Remix)" by 3LW
"I CAN'T TAKE IT NO MORE" by Bruce Springsteen
"My Heart Can't Take It No More' by THE SUPREMES
"I Can't Take it No More" by Yung Wun
    etc, etc, etc

    Happy Hunting!

Alright atmaster. This is tuffffff! Are you confident in the "ride no more" lyrics more than the confidence level with the artist being Boz Skaggs, etc? Boz has a very unique voice and the only one similar to his (at times) I can think of would be Aaron Neville. The only Boz songs that come to mind with "no more" are "We're All alone" and "It's Over". Nice songs and you should consider accepting one of them as the song you are seeking. I reckon it will be solved soon enough whenever Mumbles or FAB logs in.

    Happy 4th!

Atmaster, could this be what you're looking for ?? (fingers crossed)

    *King of El Paso
Words: Boz Scaggs / Jack Walroth
    Music: Boz Scaggs

About a million stars in that desert sky
So high and lonesome it can make you want to cry
Or drive your young blood wild

And a burning glow above that northern ridge
Three day ride will get you straight down to old Juarez
    A fool's El Dorado

He got a taste for Mescal and sweet perfume
Didn't take long to get him in the back room

All of sixteen and first taste of the border

There's a pile of bones out on the desert floor
All that's left of el Conquistador.. the conqueror

Well I rode that beast down into the ground
Through every draw and every border town
    That devil carried me

You watch a few go down to the fire or the rope
You leave little to chance and nothing to hope

An old 24 and nothing could hold me down

    (Ain't gonna ride no more)

    Ain't gonna ride no more

Well you cross it once you're gonna cross it again
Something keeps you coming back to that shadowland

And so I did for the mysteries

To hear that old soul stirrer slamming through the night
Tombstone train cuts its own daylight

    Ain't gonna ride no more

Though my leathers worn and my cuffs in tatters
My hearts on straight and that's all that matters
If I lose a few moves it aint no loss
Cause there's only one border left for me to cross

    (Ain't gonna ride no more)

I'll take my sweet time on that one

    Aint gonna ride no more

    (Ain't gonna ride no more)

Oh I aint gonna ride no more

They call me King Of El Paso and my advice
Learn that road between here and paradise

    (Ain't gonna ride no more)

    Ain't gonna ride no more

    (Ain't gonna ride no more)

    logan01 and Mumbles,
I am not sure because everytime I think about the lyrics, the tune "Lido" jumps in my head.
I vaguely remember a story from a radio show that talked about a music artist (Boz?) that had only a day left to finish an album. He was missing one more song and could not come up with it. So, instead he spent the day at an amusement park (Six Flags?) and went back to the recording studio with less than two hours to go. He immediately wrote and recorded a song with the lyrics, "can't take the ride no more". Supposedly the song went on to be a hit.

NO way. Mumbles is right, right, right! Besides, I've almost finished downloading the song (actually purchased) from iTunes because I've never heard it. I'm pretty up on his "hits" from the time he was a well known artist. Trivia: I went to school (college)with him and Steve Miller. Went to high school for one year with Stevie Ray Vaughn's older brother Jimmy when Stevie was becoming quite proficient and being a pest at the same time. Oh well. Lido's a good song too.

    Mumbles,
I'm a-feared I have told you all I know about this one.
I'm beginning to think I just dreamed it up.
If it truely is a Boz song I'm looking for, you probably have found it.

    logan01,
I'm impressed. Do we have to hold you in higher esteem now?
Can you use your previous associations to score a few backstage passes?

I knew better than to tell my little story. Send me a certified check or money order and I will send you as many backstage passes as you could ever want. Anyone in particular? Now, back to the song. You mean to tell me that you don't even recognize the song! Either it's Mumbles' or it ain't. Have you considered retirement?

Yeah I know this was a wimpy posting and yes, I have considered retirement. But as mentioned in another posting, I do have this small addiction to paychecks.
