Shukar Collective is an electro-dance band, an idea based on the mix of two generations of musicians, that reproduces sounds of the Roma and Romanian traditional music, which are made with spoons, wooden barrels, violins, accordions, bass and voice an combines them with electro sounds made using modern technologies.
The press all over the world appreciated the albums of Shukar Collective and agreed that they should be released in other countries too, that they are like a journey in a unjustly ignored world, that they are a mix of vocal songs and rhythms which make this project a very emotional and hypnotic one.
The Observer Music Monthly from the UK writes about the album Urban Gypsy that is “is an unclassifiable hybrid that is often funny, frequently exciting and sometimes bewildering.(...) it should travel far beyond Romania’s borders.”, Daily Telegraph from the UK says that “it coheres into something genuinely rich and strange”, in Orlando Weekly from the USA it’s “unique and absolutely emotional”, being “highly recommended” by the Exclaim! in CAN.
The public at every festival where Shukar Collective played was extremely thrilled by the ancient and modern combination, and the members of the project did what the bear tamers knew how to do best: to make people dance, as at Trans Musicales Festival in France, Exit Festival In Serbia , BAM festival in Spain, Sfinks Festival in Belgium.
