Can anyone give me the Italian lyrics to Amapola?
I was at a family party in Liverpool on Sunday, and all the family sang Amapola in Italian. I used to know it as a lad 40 years ago but I have lived out of Liverpool for 30 years now.

Hi!
Are you sure they were singing in Italian? I mean, I doublechecked for the word "amapola" in this language and couldn't find anything. Now, my first language is Spanish, and "amapola" in Spanish is the name of a flower called "papavero" in Italian (Engl.=poppy).
There's this famous song in Spanish called "Amapola" and it's been sung by artists from all over the globe (still in Spanish). So I thought this may be it, and here are the lyrics:
------
(De amor, en los hierros de tu reja
De amor, eschuché la triste queja
De amor, que solo en mi corazón
diciendome así con su dulce canción) this first part is not sung in many versions
Amapola, lindísima amapola
será siempre mi alma
tuya sola
yo te quiero amada niña mía
igual que ama la flor
la luz del día
Amapola, lindísima amapola
no seas tan ingrata
Amamé
Amapola, Amapola
como puedes tu vivir
tan sola
Amapola, lindísima amapola
será siempre mi alma
tuya sola
yo te quiero amada niña mía
igual que ama la flor
la luz del día
Amapola, lindísima amapola
no seas tan ingrata
Amamé
Amapola, Amapola
como puedes tu vivir
tan sola
------------
As I said, I'm not Italian, so I'm not quite sure about this. If I'm making a big mistake I apologize to you and to all the Italians who come across this post.
Cheers, Citlalli

I can confirm what Citlalli said! I'm italian and AMAPOLA is not an italian word. If the correct word is PAPAVERO, well, I remember only one song (very old) "Papaveri e papere".
Let me know
Baci
Me again!
I thought that having only the lyrics may not help you a lot to find out whether we're talking about the same tune. So, here's a link for you to listen to:
YouTube - Andrea Bocelli's Amapola
Baci anche a te Roohe!
Hello! Here you are:
YouTube - Deanna Durbin - Amapola
Deanna Durban sings; it's still the same song and yes! It's definitely in Spanish!
Greetings, Citlalli
Hey Patrick! Are you around here? Was this song the one you were looking for?
Let us know what's happened about it, I'm sure Roohe would like to know as well.
Cheers, Citlalli
your song is spanish not italian
Hi, Here the italian version of Amapola:
AMAPOLA
di LACALLE - BRUNO
Nel cuor della Pampa profumata
va il suon d'una dolce serenata:
tra i fior, canta il gitano alla sua amata
la bella canzon, con immensa passion.
"Amapola, dolcissima Amapola,
la sfinge del mio cuore sei tu sola;
io ti bramo, t'invoco follemente
per dirti: "t'amo appassionatamente"
Amapola, vaghissima Amapola,
Thanks everyone for your help and interest, I asked my mum if it was Italian or Spanish that they were singing, she said it was Spanish, but she does gets a little confused at her age. So I will need to listen closely to both versions to make up my own mind.
Thanks again.
