    Default Funeral song

I understand there was already a thread about this.. but Im new and I'm looking for a song for my mom. She is really sick with cancer.. I don't want to look at it as if she's going to leave, but I have a really bad stage fright but my mom loves my voice and if something were to happen, I'm looking for a song that I can sing for her. Something slow, but not too slow if it doens't have to be, and nothing too pitchy cause I can't go very high. Please help me out. Thank you all.

Tahira's song reminded me of the song John Lennon wrote for his mom. It is such a sad song "Julia". Also on the White album. The way it starts "half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it just to reach you, Julia". It is very slow and easy. You can sing it to her.

Default Newbie with a few suggestions...

Hi - I am new here too and wanted to add a few suggestions that I hope can help:

Connie Francis - Mama (recited it for my Nanna when she passed two years ago, and still makes me tear up now because it's so beautiful)

Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman - Con te partiro/Time To Say Goodbye (he often says he sings it for his mom who passed)

Madonna - Promise To Try (she wrote this about her mom who died of Cancer)

    Enya - Only Time

    Natalie Imbruglia - Goodbye

Jane Siberry - It Can't Rain All The Time

George Harrison - All Things Must Pass

    Lizzie West - Prayer

Over The Rhine - Give Me Strength, Latter Days

Pearl Jam - Long Road (in my opinion one of the best - it's off Merkinball)

    Linkin Park - My December

    Poe - Haunted

    Coldplay - Fix You

The Killers - Everything Will Be Alright (I like to listen to it when I need reminding )

Hope something in this list will help, and hopfully give you some comfort as they did (and still do) for me. Sending good vibes your way - Dj Kay

some of the songs we played at my dads wake:

In the arms of the angels: Sarah McLauchlan

You'll be in my heart: Phil Collins

    Danny Boy: (we're irish/scottish

they are beautiful songs but to this day I cant listen to them again and have to turn it off if I hear it so be prepared for that.

Also Angel Standing By by Jewel is beautiful but hard to find. Good Luck

hi... i just finished editing a video in remembrance of my friend's father who had recently passed away from cancer.. i used some really beautiful songs in it-here are some of them- i'm not sure if they're suitable for u but just check them out anyway...

May Angels Lead You In- Jimmy Eat World
Missing You- Brandy, Tamia, Chaka Khan & Gladys Knight
Will You Wait For Me- Kavana
One Sweet Day- Boyz II Men (it's a little cliche but it's a beautiful song)
    Please Remember- Leann Rimes

I also used 'Dance With My Father' by Luther Vandross which would be wrong for you for obvious reasons.. but if you liked it, maybe you could alter the lyrics where needed...

But there's a song called 'Mama Said' by Allure which would be perfect for you...

    Good luck and God bless...

    "Sweetest Goodbye" - Maroon 5

    Lyrics:

Where you are seems to be
    As far as an eternity
    Outstretched arms open hearts
And if it never ends then when do we start?
    I'll never leave you behind
    Or treat you unkind
    I know you understand
And with a tear in my eye
    Give me the sweetest goodbye
    That I ever did receive

    Pushing forward and arching back
Bring me closer to heart attack
Say goodbye and just fly away
    When you comeback
I have some things to say

How does it feel to know you never have to be alone
    When you get home?
There must be someplace here that only you and I could go
So I can show you how I
    Dream away everyday
    Try so hard to disregard
The rhythm of the rain that drops
And coincides with the beating of my heart

    I'll never leave you behind
    Or treat you unkind
    I know you understand
And with a tear in my eye
    Give me the sweetest goodbye
That I ever, ever, ever did receive

    [x2]
How does it feel to know you never have to be alone
    When you get home?
There must be someplace here that only you and I could go
So I can show you how I feel

    Happy to help,

    Hope you like it...

All time slow but not to slow song would be "ave maria" its in latin originally but leaves a memory... it may be sung high pitched but, you can always change it to be a couple octaves lower to suit your voice, as most songs.
    thats my suggestion.

Just saw on a tv episode with a touching funeral song by The Jayhawks called, "Will I see you in heaven." Couldn't find it very easy until I did a search on Youtube under "Will I see you in heaven." Very touching.

I'm also currently seeking info. on a tune called "True Gentleman" for the same pretense if anyone has any insight.

i second the 'sweetest goodbye' by maroon 5

    hallelujah- jeff buckley
heaven is a place nearby- lene marlin
    tonight tonight- the smashing pumpkins
    history- funeral for a friend
1979 by the smashing pumpkins is good, but the lyrics are not directly relevant.

& I'm sorry to hear about your mother

When my mother passed away I wrote a poem. Sometimes it is very hard just to speak, let alone sing when you are greiving, especially for a parent. If you are interested, still, I will put it in my next post. It is copywritten. My mother had Multiple Scelrosis and was not able to walk. So she had said one day that she wanted to be able to run barefoot in the grass. If you put that in the poetry.com search bar and my name..brenda korb-booker. It will show up. I don't have music to it yet. But it is hopeful and beautiful. I really believe God gave me the words to let me know she was with Him.
