First thing, I absolutely can't figure out if he is saying "Ireland" or "island" girl.. and there's one line I simply have no idea what the words are..

It's definitely "Island girl". I remember the song well from my pre-teen/teen years. The band had a couple of big hits and was one of "those" bands you listened to away from your parents in the conservative city of Dallas, Texas. Thanks for the post and the memories.
