Hi everyone,
This song is on a mix tape I made ’93 or ’94 with my boyfriend's CDs. He is long gone, but the tape is still well-loved and I decided I have to recreate it in digital to preserve it. And the lyrics are turning up nothing on the net -
As I said, early 90s, probably 92-95. Female vocalist, but I seem to remember it is a band rather than a singer. (I believe the name of the song is Hold On – this is the chorus, more or less – but I keep turning up Jamie Walters (that guy from 90210) and Wilson Phillips in searches.)
Here are the lyrics. It's up tempo. The first verse has just a guitar line under it, then a rhythm guitar is added for the next, then percussion – it builds up. The “yeahs” at the end are long and drawn out in a full throaty wail over the full instrumentation (I know this can’t be the right term but you know what I mean). It’s almost Cranberries-ish. Yes, I would say that’s the closest comparison. Cranberries. But not the Cranberries. D’oh!
The river’s running low
Where it used to overflow
I imagine something more
Will I live without you at all
All my memories blend and bleed
Empty arms reach out weak with need
And I fall
Yet my cold and tired (something) to hold on
Hold on, hold on
The fire in your eyes burns so bright
All my fears they’ve gone all my wrongs made right
No more fears weighing down all my inspiration all this (something) to hold on
Hold on, hold on
(The river the fire filled within your eyes flower reaches blue as I wait for you)
Some sadness will we know
In the cold breath of our lost time
I will run through the years wild and free my heart will be strong to hold on
Aohhhh hold on
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
