    http://www.4shared.com/file/10360264...__REMIX__.html

    My Attempt :

    Salama Ya Salama
    سلمى يا سلامة

    Fi ed-donia el kebira
    في الدنيا الكبيرة
    in the big world

    We beladha el ketira
    و بلادها الكثيرة
    and the many countries

    Laffeit laffeit laffeit
    لفّيت لفّيت لفّيت
    i traveled , traveled

Wi lamma nadani hobbi el awalani
    و لما نداني حب الاولاني
and when my first love called me

Sibt kollo we geit we geit
سيبت كله و جئت و جئت
    i left everything and came

    We fi hodno itramait
    و في حضنه تراميت
and i throw myself in his lap

    We ghaneit
    و غنيت
    and sang

    Salma ya salama
    سلمى يا سلامة
    safety , safety

    Rohna we Geina bel-salama
we went and got back safety
    رحنا و جئنا بالسلامة

1- Isn't Salma a woman's name ? So is it possible to translate the verse above like : gee Salma ! We went and returned in safety !

    Lessa el-hob safi
    ليسى الحب الصفي
    love still pure

    We lessa el-guaw dafi
    و ليسى الجوا الدفي
and the environment -between us- still warm

    We lessa fih amar
    و ليسى فيه قمر
    and moon still here

    We ba'd el-maghareb
    و بعد المغرب
    and after the evening

    Netlamleim fi areb
    نتلملم في قرب
we came close to each others

    We yetoul es-sahar es-sahar
    و يطول السهر السهر
    and we keep awake, awake

    We es-samar wel ghona koleina
    والسمر و الغنا كل لنا
    and we sang all together

    Fih shagara goua
    في شجرة جُوّا
    there's something inside
    جنينة عليها علامة
    Guineina 'aliha 'alama
it is in us, and there is a mark on it

2- I guess shagara means tree and Guineina means garden so I don't understand the translation of the last two verses above. I need some help here.

    Ana yamma kont bafakkar fiha
انا يا ما كنت بافاكر فيها
    i've always thought of it

    We basaal yama
    و باسأل ياما
    and i pray alot

    3 - Basaal = I pray ? I guess it means I ask. Isn't it ?

    Ya tara mawgouda
    يا ترى موجودة
    i wonder, is it there!

    We albi mahfour fiha
    و قلبي محفوظ فيها
and my heart is engraved on it

    Aiwa mawgouda
    ايوا موجودة
    yes, it is there!

    We albi mahfour fiha
    و قلبي محفوظ فيها
and my heart is engraved on it

4 - I guess she says ma7fouz instead of ma7four. Could you check it ?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Gbasfora
1- yes Salma سلمىis a woman's name but I think Salma ya salama is an expressionسالمة يا سلامة
Rohna we Geina bel-salama= we went and got back safety= We went and returned in safety
I did not understand your point ?

2- here is this part :
    Fih shagara goua
    في شجرة جُوّا
    جنينة عليها علامة
    Guineina 'aliha 'alama
There is a marked tree inside a garden

    Ana yamma kont bafakkar fiha
انا يا ما كنت بافاكر فيها

    We basaal yama
    و باسأل ياما
I think about it alot & wonder

4- I checked it , She is saying (Ma7fooz) not (Ma7foor) , I think she ment her heart is kept there not only drawn .

Any way , Dalida is hard to be understood
    Hope this was helpfull

I still have a question about the song's name. If the name is سالمة يا سلامة so the pronunciation should be saalyma ya salaama and not salma ya salaama ?

I did no mistakes writing the arabic lyrics ?! Unbelievable !!

Salma Ya Salama was created by Sayed Darwish at the beginning of the twenty century, the song simply talks about Egyptians suffering outside their homeland, the homesickness, they are satisfied with the life, if they are poor or rich doesn't matter, and how brilliant they are in war and peace.

Part of the lyrics are based on an Egyptian folk song about a man wandering in the desert between the dunes, the whole time seeing a mirage of a paradise-like garden.

Salma Ya Salama was later most famously covered by Dalida where the song gained massive chart success resulting in the song being sung in four languages: Arabic, Italian, French, and German. It also has been performed by other artists, such as Alabina, Chantal Chamandy, Jean Michel Jarre and Ziynet Sali.

    Hi,
Thanks to you and everyone for the lyrics in Ar and Eng. I'm a teacher and am using the song with my Arabic students so it's really useful.

I think in this verse, they are huddling up in a boat rather than getting close
    و بعد المغارب
    نتلملم في قارب
    و يطول السهر السهر
    والسمر و غنا كل لنا

    gbasfora - you said
" I still have a question about the song's name. If the name is سالمة يا سلامة so the pronunciation should be saalyma ya salaama and not salma ya salaama ? "

I'm not a native speaker of Arabic & I also find this difficult to make sense of in Egyptian. But from what my teachers have told me in the past, and this (http://www.101languages.net/arabic/sounds.html), I think it is because of how Egyptian pronunciation is different to standard Arabic, especially in the stress. Egyptian stress doesn't fall on the first syllable of a 3 syllable word, instead it falls on the middle syllable or the first long syllable is shortened. جامعة jaami'a (university) is pronounced jam'a and خامسة the fifth is pronounced khamsa rather than khaamisa. Hope that makes sense!
