    Default Roses

There is a song/poem that's been with me for years, and I'm trying to get it translated into various languages. One of them is Dutch.

    ------
    A rose
    A rose
    A thorn of a rose
    It nips at your fingers
    It bites at your toes

    A rose
    A rose
    A thorn of a rose
    A beauty behind it
    That nobody knows
    -----

I did my best to translate it into French, though I'm sure I messed it up, but in case that helps, here it is:

    -----
    Une rose
    Une rose
    Une épine d'une rose
    Elle mord à vos doigts
    Elle pince à v'orteils

    Une rose
    Une rose
    Une épine d'une rose
    Une beauté elle cache
Que le monde ne pas sait
    -----

It was a soft, lullaby melody, if that is of any use... I tried an online translator, but it came out impossible to sing. All I want is the general meaning - it's fine if things are changed, like the English-to-French version has some differences at the end, and I'm definitely not asking for it to rhyme (though THAT would be cool!). I just want something that has a possibility of being sung in a lullaby-style.

    Thank you!

    Hi LMkris,

you put your question into "german" section but ask for dutch. Do you need both? I´ll try in german:

    A rose
    EINE ROSE
    A rose
    EINE ROSE
    A thorn of a rose
    DER DORN EINER ROSE
    It nips at your fingers
(ER) STICHT DICH IN DEN FINGER
    It bites at your toes
(ER) PIEKST DICH IN DEINE ZEHEN

    A rose
    EINE ROSE
    A rose
    EINE ROSE
    A thorn of a rose
    DER DORN EINER ROSE
    A beauty behind it
    That nobody knows
DAHINTER EINE SCHÖNHEIT VON DER NIEMAND WEIß

I am not quite sure about the last sentence...

    Have a nice day, Tahira

Thank you! I put it in the German section because I didn't see one for Dutch, and I hoped that this would be the best section to ask.

Is that Dutch or German? I am looking for Dutch, and if you know of a better section (or where the Dutch one is in case I missed it), I'd be glad to repost there.

    Thank you again!

Also, in the French version, the last two lines are changed to "A beauty she hides / That the world does not know", if that helps. It doesn't need to be a direct translation at all.

    A rose
    Een roos
    A rose
    Een roos
    A thorn of a rose
    De doorn van een roos
    It nips at your fingers
    Het steekt in je vingers
    It bites at your toes
    Het bijt in je tenen

    A rose
    Een roos
    A rose
    Een roos
    A thorn of a rose
    Een doorn van een roos
    A beauty behind it
    Een schoonheid erachter
    That nobody knows
    die niemand kent

Or something like it..It's the dutch translation
