It's been so long since I heard the song, I almost didn't recognize it.
It's called "Pipeline" by The Ventures but it's not the original recording.
The Ventures are a band that played only instrumental songs in the early 1960's.
The attached links have live versions of The Ventures performing the song (sort of then and now).

You may want to check out some of their other songs like "Walk Don't Run", "Hawaii Five-0" and "Wipeout".

Oops, the original recording artist for the song, "Pipeline" was the Chantays (see attached link).

Ok, I think I finally got my facts straight...
I now believe the song you are looking for is called "Miserlou" originally recorded by D. Dale and the Del-Tones in 1962. The Del-Tones recording is actually a rearrangement of an 1927 Greek rebetika song. Since rebetika is a style of music that originated with the Greek refugees from Turkey, it makes sense that this song would have been chosen for the NTV video.

The Del-Tones version was used in the Quentin Tarantino film, "Pulp Fiction". The attached links have live versions of D. Dale performing the song (sort of then and now).

However, I have not been able to find out the artist performing the song in the NTV video.

I guess my point confusion was that both songs (Miserlou and Pipeline) have muted down-scale guitar slides in the middle of the song (a staple feature of beach/surfer genre music). The Ventures and D. Dale recorded separate covers of the song, "Pipeline" (original artist was The Chantays in 1963). It's gonner be a while before I live this down.

Uh, now get let me get this straight, atmaster pontificating on Turkish (albeit Greek refugees) surfing music. I guess we are near April 1.

Thanks a lot, logan! There goes my chance to impress our many users with Turkish or Greek ties.
Ok, Ok, I admit my Turkish history lesson is newly acquired "knowledge".
But to add an even more international twist to this story, D. Dale was born in Beirut, Lebanon.
