When I first read your poem before the translation by Mr CORTOM, it struck a chord. The poem is comprised of the same 2repetitive words. I only know the fundamentals. Managed to put pen to paper however my knowledge of tense is non-existent and meaning is not always literal.

At the time, I was not a member. Today I revisited this page in order to save your original lyrics and discovered that a translation has been supplied. It is good to put French and English on alternate lines. Nevertheless I am submitting the poem without alternate lines to serve as a summary, if you like.

POINTS TO NOTE

L'amour, L'amour ça se prend par envie -------> I have described this as "Love _ Love is taken away by jealousy" because the verb prendre = to take. It is possible that Mr Cortom may have the correct definition "Love ... is driven by jealousy". I like his use of the word JEALOUSY and thus have changed the word ENVY to JEALOUSY.

My translation for the word MEURT taken from the sentence "La vie, la vie ça meurt pour l'amour" is different. My interpretation is KILL rather than DIE so that the sentence reads "Life _ Life it kills for love". The terms would seem to be defined thus:

meurtrir = to wound and meurtre = murder
meure = see mourir and mourir = to die

The letters M-E-U-R are very similar however I chose the word KILL because there is a "t" in MEURT. I am guessing and it is possible that my interpretation could be wrong. I won't be offended if I am wrong because I am attempting to translate and would not call myself an expert in the field. Further clarification is necessary.

meurtrir is a regular ir verb with present tense:

je meurtris
tu meurtris
il/elle meurtrit
nous meurtrissons
vous meurtrissez
ils/elles meurtrissent
