Most norwegians (swedes and danes as well btw) have a fairly good knowledge of english. we start to learn english at young age in school. And we never dub movies/tv shows (we use subtitles). So people get passive lessons in english by watching tv . Norwegian (north germanic)is also from the same family group as english (west germanic). So norwegian and english are much closer than english and turkish. Hmm native english speaker often forget how difficult it can be for non germanic native speakers to learn their language. After all it is a messy language with a lot of irregularities in both pronunciation and the grammar system, its not governed by a strict set of rules like turkish :P (one of the reasons why i like turkish is because of the cool grammar system). Apart from that i always read books in their original language (if i can), so i have read a lot of english books. And finally i study medicine in english, so i guess i have to know the language :P
wow
so you have lots of time and chances to speak english
with me I study in an english university
but I study Turkish aswell.
and I also teach the local turkish kids Quran (those who are too stuborn to learn arabic)
With Turkish, in my personal opinion-if you didnt grow up with the language, its harder to learn
What made you intrested in Turkish music in the first place?

Hi all, I know it's been a long time and xoNuraox has done a good job of the translation, but there were some bits not fully translated and I thought I should update.

Halil Ibrahim Sofrasi 'na
Insanoglu haddin bilir kem söz söylemez iken
Elalemin namusuna yan gözle bakmaz iken
Bir sofra kurulmus ki Halil Ibrahim adina
Ortada bir tencere bos mu dolu mu bilen yok
At a time when people new their place and wouldn't talk bad about others or try to tarnish their honour
A feast was prepared in the name of Abraham, but no one knew whether the pot in the middle was empty
A ( Buyurun dostlar buyurun Halil Ibrahim Sofrasi'na
Come my friends, join us in this feast for Abraham
Daha çatal biçak kasik icad edilmemisken
Ismail'e inen koç kurban edilmemisken
Bir kavga baslamis ki nasip kismet ugruna
Kapagi ver kulbu al, kurbani hiç soran yok
Before forks, knives and spoons were invented,
before the lamb for Isaac was sacrificed
A fight broke out, each chasing their fortune
trading the lid for the handle, no one wondering about the sacrifice
Repeat A
Yillardir sürüp giden bir pay alma çabasi
Topu topu bir dilim kuru ekmek kavgasi
Bazen durur bakarim bu ibret tablosuna
Kimi tatli pesinde kimininse tuzu yok
The fight for a share has been raging forever
at the end, we're all fighting over a piece of dried bread
Sometimes I watch this scene to learn
some looking for sweets, while others still need salt
Buyurun dostlar buyurun Halil Ibrahim Sofrasi'na
Alni açik gözü toklar buyursunlar bas köseye
Kula kulluk edenlerse ömür boyu tas dösege
Nefsine hakim olursan kurulursun tahtina
Çalakasik saldirirsan ne çikarsa bahtina
Halat gibi bilegiyle yayla gibi yüregiyle
Çoluk çocuk geçindirip haram nedir bilmeyenler
Buyurun siz de buyurun, buyurun dostlar buyurun
Come my friends, join us in this feast for Abraham,
The honest and the non-greedy please sit at the head of the table
Those serving the servants can only hope for a bed of stone
If you control your desires, you can build your throne
If you blindly dip your spoon into the pot, you'll get whatever your luck delivers
Those that work hard and have the patience
raise their children without sin
Come on, come on, you join us too...
Baris der her bir yani altin gümüs taç olsa
Dalkavuklar etrafinda el pençe divan dursa
Sapa kulpa kapaga itibar etme dostum
Içi bos tencerenin bu sofrada yeri yok
Para pula ihtisama aldanip kanma dostum
Içi bos insanlarin bu dünyada yeri yok
Baris says, even if you are surrounded by riches,
Even if flatterers keep boosting your ego
Don't put faith in the lid or the handle my friend
An empty pot does not belong on this table
Don't be fooled by money or fame my friend
People with no substance do not belong in this world
