    Question Please help identify instrumental from 70's

    I have this song in my head from my childhood that comes and goes every few years. It used to play on the radio in the early to mid-70's and I quite enjoyed it. While I am thinking about it again I am asking for help to identify it. It is an instrumental that features the trumpet. To describe it I would say it is similar in feel and tempo to Herb Alpert's "Rise". I've done a bit of searching and listening but haven't come across it. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Now that was a trip! That is not the song I am looking for but somehow I am familiar with it (I was only 2 years old when that came out). Thank you for the response.

I am pretty sure the song in question was a contemporary "hit" sometime between 1970 and 1974. This is when I had one of those all-in-one stereo systems and would play the radio at night to go to sleep. It was a kinda smooth jazz groove...

    Next wild guesses are:

    "Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione

    "Grazing in the Grass" by Hugh Masekela (1968)

    It is somewhere between "Rise" by Herb Alpert and "Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione. I have attached a Wav file with me trying to hum it. You will have to turn it up pretty loud to hear it, though...

    Thank you for your work.

    I tried to zip the wave file it but it was too big. I'll try something else...

    If we're talking about the same song I've been trying to get people to identify it for years. I kind of have it cornered though. TimeLife Romancing the 70's plays the song I'm looking for in their 30 min commercials with Tony Orlando in between songs with lyrics but never identifies the performer of the instrumental.

    edit:
    The one I was looking for was definitely Feels so good by Chuck Mangione. Maybe this version sounds more like what you're lookin for rcampbell. And thanks atmaster!

    Try this song incase you're mistaking a trumpet sound for a synthesizer ...

    Kool & The Gang - Summer Madness {1974}

    I realize this thread is old, but I woke up this morning thinking of this song and I'm 33 O.o; however, I just wanted to register and say thanks for posting this cause it sure as heck was what I was looking for. It's extremely hard to describe instrumentals, but I googled ... instrumental songs, trumpet, 60's, western. Luckily I came to the exact right spot ... this thread. Thanks again - Michael

    Great suggestion (and song) angienobles! However, I believe the solo part in "Baker Street" is played on an alto saxophone instead of a trumpet.

    I hope you are still out there and connected to this forum. Is the song possibly "Open Up Wide" by Chase? That's one that has been bugging me for ages - comes and goes in my head, like you said - and I finally figured it out.

    Try this link and see if it's the one you're searching for. Otherwise, Chicago and Lighthouse are bands that might feature the trumpet pretty much, I would look at them.

    Good luck!
