    Default One Alone by Oscar Hammerstein

    From The Desert Song. I find several Web sites for The Desert Song, but I can't find the lyrics to One Alone. Are they on the Web?

    Hey, I could not find a good and complete version of the song online, are these the lyrics? they fit with the snippet I found on Amazon as far as I understand them

    I have heard all you've been saying
    Yet I will love in my own way

    Lonely as a desert breeze
    I may wonder where I please
    Yet I keep on longing
    Just to rest a while

    Where a sweetheart's tender eyes
    Take the place of sand and skies
    All the World forgotten
    In one Woman's smile

    One alone, to be my own
    I alone, to know her caresses
    One to be, eternally
    The one my worshipping soul possesses

    At her call, I'd give my all
    All my life and all my love enduring
    This would be a magic World to me
    If she were mine alone

    One alone, to be my own
    I alone, to know her caresses
    One to be, eternally
    The one my worshipping soul possesses

    कौन कहता है आदमी अपनी किस्मत खुद लिखता है?

    Default Thanks

    Thanks very much. I'm not sure those are the complete lyrics, but they sound pretty close. In the 1953 film, Kathryn Grayson chimes in at the end, making it a duet with Gordon Macrae -- I will have to go back to the film and figure out what part she is singing.

    Steena and Clackman1,

    I grew up with my father singing this song to me. Now he is gone and I miss him so much but I can't find any recording of this song. I did not even know the title.

    Thank you. I've been searching for the lyrics and even a record/CD of this song. Other songs that I am looking for: My Rosary, My Desert is waiting, Caress... I am not even sure that these are the titles. Any info. is appreciated.

    Default One Alone

    I don't know about the other songs you mention, but Amazon.com has a CD of the original cast recording of Desert Song, which would have One Alone on it.

    Default wonder vs wander

    Its: "I may wander where I please"

    Except for the first two lines, I have the song memorized. Except for "wonder", it is correct.

    Now, does anyone have the complete lyrics to Romance from the Desert Song? (not My Romance, which is another fantastically beautiful song.). I believe there are two versions, one from the musical show and one from the movie.

    Default "Romance", from the Desert Song

    Here are the lyrics as I remember them.

    Romance:
    A flower that is born each Spring
    To teach a nightingale to sing
    A very pretty song:
    "I Love You".
    Romance:
    A legend on an old brocade;
    A prince who tells a country maid
    "I love you."

    Now where this whimsy comes from
    I don't know,
    But when it comes
    It's just about to go.

    Romance:
    A flower that will bloom awhile
    On dewdrops from a lover's smile,
    And then will fade away.

    Yet when I seek this beauty,
    Flower of youth's first dawning,
    I find a prosy, workaday world
    Stretching and yawning.

    Love is locked up in cages,
    Kept for a poet's pages.
    Love and adventure
    Don't seem to be
    Paying attention to me.

    And so I dream
    Of fair romance
    And let my fancy weave
    Pretty stories.

    And though I know
    They are-n't so
    I like to go
    Wand'ring amid their wistful glories.

    My princes become what I mold them
    And they're mine for the breadth of a sigh.
    I open my arms to enfold them
    And they're gone
    Like a breeze rushing by.

    Ah, this is a humdrum world;
    But when I dream, I set it dancing.
    When life is grey
    I have a way
    To make it gay:
    I spend the time of day
    Romancing.

    Default Don't know this one's name:

    a duet
    The setting is the Red Shadow, in his non-terrorist disguise,
    romancing the heroine.

    He sings:
    My passion is not to crash on and woo a maiden in modern fashion.
    I like the ways of the old world,
    Ways of a dear self-controlled world.
    I'll not give you mad embraces
    To tear your laces and make you frown, dear.
    I'll kiss the hem of your gown, dear;
    Then you will know I love you.

    Then she sings:
    It is plain to see you've never been a girl;
    That's no way to win a girl.

    Then he sings:
    Isn't there a dream that I can realize,
    One girl I can idolize?

    Then she sings:
    Put her on a pedestal and she will fall;
    She is human after all.

    Then he sings:
    All my love is gentle.
    My appeal is mental.

    Then she sings:
    She won't hear you call.

    My passion is not to crash on and woo a maiden in modern fashion.
    I'll kiss the hem of your gown, dear;
    Then you will know I love you.

    Default The Desert Song

    Since it isn't on the Web, here are the lyrics to The Desert Song, as much as I

    remember:

    Intro Version 1

    Why spend your time in vague romancing
    When life itself is at your call,
    I come to you my heart advancing
    O come with me and you will be my all.

    Intro Version 2

    Why spend your time in vague romancing
    When life itself is at your call.
    I come to you my heart advancing
    O come with me and be my all.

    You turn away and yet you tremble.
    My little bird has wings it seems.
    ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
    ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

    Verse:

    My desert is waiting,
    Dear come there with me.
    I'm longing to tesch you
    Love's sweet melody.

    I'll sing a dream song to you;
    Painting a picture for two:

    Chorus:

    Blue heavon and you and I,
    And sand kissing a moonlight sky;
    The desert breeze whispering a lullaby,
    Only stars above you to say
    "I love you."

    Oh, give my that night divine
    And let my arms in yours entwine.
    The Desert Song calling,
    Its voice enthralling
    will make you mine.
