I hope i find the time to do some translations from greek to english or vice versa, at the greek lyrics requests, if i find the time.

What i want is an english translation to the following french songs that appeared at the 'Les Enfoires' concert.

It's the perfect 'Father' song! I have always been very fond of it too!

Yes, what a lovely song about parenthood. As inspiring as "Un enfant" by Brel is.

A sole note about :

"Prendre un enfant par le coeur
...Taking a child in your heart"

In this case, I think the best way to translate the methaphorical french meaning is the word for word :

"Prendre un enfant par le coeur
...Taking a child by the (its) heart"


What a "superbe métaphore" :

"Prendre un enfant par la main
Taking a child by the hand
...
Prendre un enfant par le coeur
Taking a child by the heart
..."

'par son coeur' (the child's heart)

vs.

'sur son coeur' (the father's heart)

I'm not sure yet that I understand it completely, but it must be something like that.

You're right.
".. sur son coeur" as you say, means the father's heart (or mother's heart).
(Btw, I still dont know why you think it's a "father" song. Both parents may be concerned by the lyrics, there's no clear distinction between).


And as strange as it may appear :

"... sur son coeur" (father's heart) has its meaning. Writing "... sur le coeur" would have sounded ambigous with "sur".


But

writing "... par le coeur" (child's heart) is better french than "... par son coeur"

the same way as

writing "... par la main" (child's hand) is better french than "... par sa main"

When I think that it is a 'father' song, I guess it is most of all because Yves Duteil is male. But I feel it in the lyrics too. While the mother has allready had months of the most intimate contact with her unborn child, for a father, taking his child in his arms after birth is his first really close physical contact with the new baby. I always thought the song described this moment of bonding, and the thoughts and musings that it brings with it. Maybe we should ask him?

Bon soir! Looks like it's going to be a blast participating at this forum. The first question I had was what the heck was this Live concert Les Enfoires? I've downloaded like 8 masterpiece performances with this in the title.

Bear with me, I'm an ignorant Southern American, learnin' a tad of French as I go. So far, I've stumbled upon most of the titles y'all mentioned in the top 10 French posts. From there, I'll make some swift (and reaching) assumptions.

I find it quite amazing that the arts are so alive at this time in France. It is fun to observe this unfolding 'war' between Pauline Croze and Mademoiselle K, as we've had nothing of the sort in our American Indy scene, except maybe a tad at SXSW.

It's really a friendly sort of competetion, mind you I'm standing in the shadows, (!) of Love, as they say. LOL: Mme K ROCKS, Pauline!!!
