    Default I hear a drummer

I'm trying to identify the following lyrics so, that I can try and get the sheet music. Anyone know who the singer/writer is?

    I hear a different drummer

    Chorus
    I hear a different drummer,
    I hear another beat.
I'm marching to the rhythm from a different beat.
I'm sure your song is fine,
But I hear a different drummer playing mine.

    Verse I
    It pleases me to think,
    To think as I belive.
    I'm bothered not at all,
    When someone disagrees.
    He's welcome to his song,
And at any time it's played,
    I'll cheer that man along,
But I won't join his parade.

    Chorus

    Verse 2
    A man a Walden Pond,
    Began this song I hum.
He learned it from his heart,
    Not from a Hollow drum.
The note he sang was brave,
Hea sang it loud and clear.
So now when other music's plyed,
Only his song do I hear.

    Chorus

    Bless you -
I have a recording of this piece that I sang with the Singing Cadets of Texas A&M in 1977. I have listened carefully and got all the words except the 3rd verse, so am delighted to have them. I have e-mailed the librarian of the Singing Cadets and asked for the words, so perhaps he could tell me something about the publication as well. If so I will post that info here. It's really a beautiful song and very inspirational, but all too often when we choose to march to the beat of a different drummer there are negative consequences. When I taught, I used to encourage my students not to be afraid to be different and not to yield to peer pressure.

If you would like the music I have for it I could send you an mp3 of it. Would need your personal e-mail, so message me at drjimm1127@gmail.com

Here, I believe, are the real words.

    I Hear a Different Drummer

    Chorus
    I hear a different drummer,
    I hear another beat,
    I’m marching to a rhythm ,
    From a distant street.
I’d like to stay here Johnny,
I’m sure your song is fine,
But I hear a different drummer playing mine.

    It pleases me to think,
That I think as I please,
    I’m bothered not at all,
    When someone disagrees.
    He’s welcome to his song,
    And anytime it’s played,
    I’ll cheer the man along,
But I won’t join his parade.

    Chorus

    A man on Walden Pond,
    Began this song I hum,
He learned it from his heart,
    Not from a hollow drum.
The note he sang was brave,
He sang it loud and clear,
    When other music plays,
Only his song do I hear.

    Chorus
