Can anyone translate this

Miguel pereira es un muchacho de la coruña. Le escribió una carta a Amparo pedregal, una nueva amiga en la ciudad de Gijón. En su carta le dice cómo es, qué hizo de vacaciones este verano y qué deportes y pasatiempos le gustan. El mes de julio tomé cursos de vela en el club de vela. También tomé clases de tenis y jugué mucho. Me encanta la música de Ana torroja. La vi cuando estaba con el grupo Mecano. El verano que viene voy a dar una vuelta ciclista rumbo a Francia. Vamos a pasar un día en Gijón y podemos conocernos. ¡Qué suerte!

Mi amigo Josh es un poco tímido pero muy divertido. Fuimos varias veces a la playa Riazor para nadar. Le enseñe a bucear y pasear un velero.

Me la paso coleccionando adhesivos y leyendo tiras cómicas.

In his letter he tells her how he is, how he spent his summer holiday, what sports he likes, or what he likes to do in his free time. In July I took sailing courses, at a sailing club. I also took tennis classes and played a lot. I love Ana Torroja's music. I saw her when I was with the Mecano group. Next summer I will make a cycle race tour of France. We will spend a day at Gijón and we can meet. What a luck!

Personally, I would say: Fui a ver la banda anoche y pensé en ti. Hubiera deseado (or better: querido) que estuvieras allí para que bailaras conmigo. I think it's a matter of personal preference as to whether you should say 'mirar' or 'ver'.

I'm a little more confused now. But I did just notice I conjugated desear for future tense instead of past. Is this correct then?

I wished that you were there to dance with me.

Deseé que estuvieras allí para bailar conmigo.

I don't know if it would be deseé or deseaba.

All I can really tell you is what sounds right to my ear. I think someone more fluent may be able to explain why and what verb tenses you should use. I like the word "querer" better than "desear" in this case even though technically the latter does mean "to wish." I'm leaning towards either "quería" or "hubiera querido": Quería que estuvieras allí para que bailaras conmigo. -or- Hubiera querido que estuvieras allí para que bailaras conmigo.

It's "deseé" because you're talking about something you wished in a particular moment, while watching the band... deseaba sounds imprecise in time and sounds like it had a duration...

I think it's correct to say:

"Deseé que estuvieras allí para bailar conmigo"

or perhaps:

"Hubiera querido/deseado que estuvieras ahí para bailar conmigo" (as bedroomeyes has said )
