    MAKBER

"Eyvah! Ne yer, ne yâr kaldı,
    Gönlüm dolu ah-u zâr kaldı.
    Şimdi buradaydı, gitti elden,
    Gitti ebede gelip ezelden.

    Ben gittim, o haksar kaldı,
    Bir köşede tarumar kaldı,
    Baki o enis-i dilden, eyvah,
    Beyrut'ta bir mezar kaldı.

    Bildir bana nerde, nerde Yarab,
Kim attı beni bu derde Yarab?
    Nerde arayayım o dil rübayı,
    Kimden sorayım bi-nevayı?

    Derler ki unut o aşnayı,
    Gitti tutarak reh-i bekayı,
    Sığsın mı hayale bu hakikat?
    Görsün mü gözüm bu macerayı?

    Sür'atle nasıl da değişti halim,
    Almaz bunu havsalam, hayalim.
    Çık Fatıma! Lahdden kıyam et,
    Yadımdaki haline devam et.

Ketmetme bu razı, söyle bir söz,
Ben isterim, ah, öyle bir söz.
    Güller gibi meyl-i ibtisam et,
Dağ-ı dile çare bul, meram et.

    Bir tatlı bakışla, bir gülüşle,
    Eyyamı hayatımı temam et,
Makber mi nedir şu gördüğüm yer?
Ya böyle reva mı ey cay-ı dilber?"

    The Grave MAKBER

Alas! There's no place, no lover left "Eyvah! Ne yer, ne yâr kaldı,
My heart full of lament Gönlüm dolu ah-u zâr kaldı.
She was just here, she's gone Şimdi buradaydı, gitti elden,
She'd came from primordial , gone to eternity Gitti ebede gelip ezelden.

I'm gone, she became crumbled into dust Ben gittim, o haksar kaldı,
She became scattered in a spot Bir köşede tarumar kaldı,
That's what left from that companion. Alas! Baki o enis-i dilden, eyvah,
A grave in Beirut left from her Beyrut'ta bir mezar kaldı.

Tell me where, where is she oh Lord Bildir bana nerde, nerde Yarab,
Who did push me into this sorrow oh Lord? Kim attı beni bu derde Yarab?
Where should I search for that delilah Nerde arayayım o dil rübayı,
Who should I ask for that speechless? Kimden sorayım bi-nevayı?

They said that "forget that love" Derler ki unut o aşnayı,
She's gone throughout the road of eternity Gitti tutarak reh-i bekayı,
Should this reality fit into this imagination? Sığsın mı hayale bu hakikat?
Should my eyes see this adventure? Görsün mü gözüm bu macerayı?

How my mode change this rapidly, Sür'atle nasıl da değişti halim,
My intelligence, my imagination don't get it, Almaz bunu havsalam, hayalim.
Come out Fatıma!from that sarcophagus and rise in rebellion Çık Fatıma! Lahdden kıyam et,
Continue state of you that I remember Yadımdaki haline devam et.

Don't hold back this secret, tell me something, Ketmetme bu razı, söyle bir söz,
I want, ah, something like this Ben isterim, ah, öyle bir söz.
Smile like roses, Güller gibi meyl-i ibtisam et,
Find a cure to lovelorn, intend. Dağ-ı dile çare bul, meram et.

With a sweet glance, with a smile Bir tatlı bakışla, bir gülüşle,
Make my days of life completed, Eyyamı hayatımı temam et,
Is it grave or what, that I see over there? Makber mi nedir şu gördüğüm yer?
Is it worthy of, ey my love's place? Ya böyle reva mı ey cay-ı dilber?"

This one from Abdulhak Hamit Tarhan. His wife Fatıma/Fatma died in Beirut. She was buried there that inspired him to write his poem "The Grave".

Well it's a hard one and I tried my best. It's so old and some words are from Ottoman Turkish language. I've researched for them and I may have made mistakes.

    and just for the record;

ah-u zâr: to lament, cry a lot, to be in mourning
haksar: wretched, miserable ,to be all in dust and soil
enis-i dil: lover, "the friend of heart" in exactly meaning, companion, wife, husband
    dil rüba: Delilah, heart thief,
bi-neva: quiet, breathless, speechless, poor, miserable, pitiful
    aşna: familiar, conversant, knowing
    reh-i beka: reh= way, road,method - beka=continuity, eternity,infinity
    Ketmetme: To hide, don't tell
    raz: secret,mystery
    meyl-i ibtisam: meyl= to tend - ibtisam=to smile
    Dağ-ı dil: heart wound, lovelorn
cay-ı dilber: cay=location, place, position - dilber= loved girl, delilah, lover
Staying awake to chase a dream, tasting the air you're breathing in. I hope I won't forget a thing. (muse)
