Hi my friends , I need the translation of Lamma bada yatathanna one of the most beautiful songs for Fairouz. Thanks in advance

    http://www.4shared.com/file/64678645...amma_Bada.html

    Talking :
Jadak alghaythou iza alghaythou hamma ya zaman alwasli fi alandalousi

Lamma yakounou waslouka illa huluma fil kara aw khilsata almoukhtalisi

    singing :

    Lamma bada Yatathanna

    Lamma bada Yatathanna

    Qada assiba wa addalal

    7ebbi jamalu fatanna

    Afdihi hal min wassal

    Awma bi LaHzu asarna

    Birraoudi bayna attilal

    Ghusnun saba 7inama

    Ghanna hawahou wa mal

    W3adi wa ya Hirati

    Waadi wa ya Hirati

    Mali ra7im shakwaty

    Bil7oubbi min law3aty

    Illa maleekul jamal

    Illa maleekul jamal

    Bil7oubbi min law3aty

    Illa maleekul jamal

I love this song, I didn´t know that Fairouz was singing it, too.

Look here what I have found:

    From Hala:
"Lama Bada yatathanna" is a very old and famous song from the Andalusian period (the Arab rule in Spain, aka Moorish Spain). That kind of song, known as Muwashah, was developed in that era. There is a wealth of information on the web about Andalusian music and its influence.
The song is typical 'ghazel' poetry which is romantic poetry that recounts the beauties of the beloved one. "When she starts to move, amen, her beauty fascinates us. The movements are like a tree branch leaning".

    Also:
This is called "Lama Bada - Shadows of the Alhambra" on Dalia Carella's CD Shuvani and the same song, minus any lyrics, is identified on one of Delilah's DVDs as "Mwah Sha"

    "When She Begins to Sway"
    When the gossamer nymph appears,
    My beloved's beauty drives me to distraction;
    Surrender
    Surrender
When I am enraptured by a glimpse,
    My beloved's beauty is a tender branch caught by the breeze;
    Surrender
    Surrender
    Oh my destiny, my perplexity,
No one can comfort me in my misery,
In my lamenting and suffering for love,
    But for the one in the beautiful mirage;
My beloved's beauty drives me to distraction,
    Surrender
    Surrender

...and I have found it here: http://www.raqs.co.nz/me/lyrics/lama_bada.html

Thank you Tahira . The translation above will help me to understand the arabic lyrics but they are not the translation of Fairouz's version. Hope someone else can help us.

Obs : The version above was sung by Fairouz in Damascus festival 1960

Shoukran jazilan ya raysa. My parents are palestinians so I speak and write arabic a little bit ( I'm still learning). I've tried to translate those lyrics but my translation doesn't make sense , I guess my arabic is not good enough yet for this kind of lyrics.

    Bye

don't say this, not at all
    think nothing about it

i did some of it but i'm still not sure about the other so i'll post the one i'm sure about... and inshallah will complete the rest soon... sorry

    Here you go

Jadak alghaythou iza alghaythou hamma ya zaman alwasli fi alandalousi
The rain awarded (was generous to you) you when it falls heavily, oh you the time of communication with Andalusia
here my first pause coz i'm not used to here جادك or جاد with ك added may be جاءك is more commonly for me

Lamma yakounou waslouka illa huluma fil kara aw khilsata almoukhtalisi
Communicating with you was only a dream in drowsiness (like daydream), or peep of the peeper

    singing :

    Lamma bada Yatathanna
When he started to move coquettishly

    Lamma bada Yatathanna
When he started to move coquettishly

    Qadda assiba wa addalal
every other youth and fondle were excuted (in his eyes)
i paused here coz the poet didn't add عليه as preposition... so it confused me a little bit

    7ebbi jamalu fatanna
My love, his beauty took our hearts and minds/ charmed us
(I paused as well a lot infront of 7ebbi coz nowadays I’m used to hear them say 7obbi instead)

    Afdihi hal min wassal
I redeem him (or I pay my life to him), is there any way so we re-communicate

    Awma bi LaHthu asarna
once He nodded his head, and capture us in a moment

    Awma bi LaHzu asarna
once He nodded his head, and capture us in a moment

    Birraoudi bayna attilal
    In the garden between hills

    Ghusnun saba 7inama
a branch was taken captive us when

    Ghanna hawahou wa mal
His love sang and leaned (his love called me and I replied)

    W3adi wa ya Hirati
the one who I’m promised with and the cause of my confusion

    Waadi wa ya Hirati
the one who I’m promised with and the cause of my confusion

    Mali ra7im shakwaty
I have no one to pity my complain

    Bil7oubbi min law3aty
Of love and it’s strong passion

    Illa maleekul jamal
But not the one with beauty

    Illa maleekul jamal
But not the one with beauty
    Bil7oubbi min law3aty
Of love and it’s strong passion

    ok
i've finished it with so many pauses eventually were solved ... if you have any question you may ask

if you noticed that the translatoin says uses male (once he noded his head, and other translation) or it's even in arabic
but it was ment a female some times poets use male instead of female
ofcourse you can't imagine male fondling... that will look gross
even it's sung by Fairouz as she's female... the poet was written by man.. i guess...

    Default Pronunciation

An Egyptian friend of mine is translating the Arabic for me. I will post what he comes up with as soon as he gets it to me. The transliteration doesn't quite work for me. I've been using it as a start and making notes based on what he is teaching me. It really does sound close to the Fairouz version, but there are a lot of breath marks where a sound is breathed but not voiced in what George is teaching me. I will post my notes here once he's satisfied I'm getting the sound of the language correct.

I've been singing this song for many years, but still don't have all the sounds right. I would appreciate any history on the song (both lyrics and melody) that anyone can provide. When I get a chance, I'll do some research on it and post it here. It's really important for me to get this right. As far as I can tell, I'm the only singer in Indiana publicly performing this song.
