Please translate from Greek to English, "Ti Na Thimitho, Ti Na Xehaso", as sung by George Dalaras.

When I was a child too

I 'flew away' from my swing

    but I could see knives

in the streets of the City (Constantinople)

    Hunted at a dawn,

    I ran into the streets

fire at my legs was earth

    and loneliness over my shoulders.

Bring me water to quench my thirst

    a rock to rest upon

what to remember. what to forget

    from what I've been through.

Default Are questions about "meaning" of songs allowed, like "Ti Na Thimitho, Ti Na Xehaso"?

"Ti Na Thimitho, Ti Na Xehaso" has been translated here:

    http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=51680

but the translation gives no hint of the "meaning" intended by the lyricist.

I know that sometimes a song can just be "impressionistic" with no particular intended "meaning".

Is that the case here? Was the lyricist just trying to evoke a general feeling of "remembrance", or was there a particular meaning intended, perhaps partly political?

Anyway, if questions about "meaning" are not allowed here, please forgive the question.

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

Thank you very much - I thought it was "political" but wasn't aware of the 1955 events ... so much to learn, so much to learn!
