Please listen to this track BAHIYA by Walid Toufic

Itīs nice but there is a much nicer version, which starts more dramatic with violins; it must be about 15 years old, or even older; and it is about 7 minutes long.

Who is the singer of that original version? I once used to have it on a cassette and the cover of this cassette was a drawn picture from the sphinx.

Maybe someone can help as it is one of thohs arabic song I love the most.

YOU ARE SO GREAT!!! Thank you.

The 1st video comes close the the version I have. I guess the only difference is, that your´s is alive concert and mine a studio tape.

I love this song so much - also to dance to. It has everything, feeling, rhythm change.

Can you give me rough explanation of what he is sining. I once had a dance class an egpyt dancer, but she had only little knowledge of english. And she told us, that it is about a girl called Bahia and her eyes are so beautiful that she should better hide in the house, because she makes every man crazy. Is this right? Or was it a misunderstanding?

    Thank you elraisa,
the videos are great. Of course I know Mahmoud Reda. We still learn Mahmoud read style. I have had also some teacher who were teached by Farida Fahmy.

I´ve learned Oyun Bahia from Hoda Ibrahim, but I am not sure if she ever belonged to the Mahmoud Reda Troupe. I have also had some lessons with Nadia Hamdi, she is a pure Baladi dancer; and she is such a cute lady.

    Thanky you very much

I would call myself semi-professional. I dance in restaurants, wedding, birthday parties or cultural events and I get money for this. I also have three classes to whom I learn to dance. And I belong to regional well-known dance groupe. And the money I earn I spent in new workshops to learn and study the dance even more. In germany (and I guesss also in the rest of Europe and USA) belly dance is learned and teached on a high level. You learn about the difference of music and dnace style. Regional differences of the styles. DIna is highly discussed; everybody who dances know Samia gamal, Tahia Carioca, Nagwa Fouad, Fifi Abdo, Raqia Hassan and so on.... There are also some egyptians living here in Germany who belonged once to the Reda Troupe or Baloon Thatre in Cairo. So we really get lessong with a big background knowledge from the teachers.

No, I do not learn arabic. I do not have time for this. Family, job.... the rest of my life is "occupied" with dancing....
That´s how I found this forums here, because I was looking for some translations of certian songs.

    Have nice day !

    Hi Rialisha,
when I started learning dancing (15 years ago) there was no possiblity to learn it with video or DVD; as there didn´t exist any.
In any way you should take lessons with a teacher or at a dance school. As there are certain things you have to take care of. The right way of standing, using the feeds; for example upright standing. You need someon that corrects you, gives you input and so on. Otherwise you can harm your body, knees etc. You can use Videos additionally to your "real life lessons" but you cannot learn only from videos. Furthermore you can learn much background information about styles and the movements form your teacher.

I have no own video, and no youtube performance. I do not have the equipment to film myself, and my husband is more skill worker than technically interested, and we do not know how to upload. I even do not have a homepage, but I am thinking about this.

Where are you from? Mybe I can give you some advice for dance schools, or some internet links.

This is the old version I have too. I used to have it ona cassette. THe cassette had a drawing of the Sphinxs as a cover.

The drum solos in between at 1:00 (and 1:38) is not in the original song.
And she has cuttet the song several times, its originally about 7 minutes long.
