    Exclamation Pavel Stratan - Visul

I thought while I was asking, I might see if anyone could translate these lyrics from Pavel Stratan's song "Visul".... it is such a powerful clip! (sorry, the diacritic marks were not in this version on the lyrics)

Asara am jisat un jis frumos,
    Di parca tata inapoi s-o-ntors,
Da cand am vrut sa-l string in brate, sa-l cuprind,
O disparut dar singur am ramas plangand.
Si multi-am vrut si-i spun da nu i-am spus,
    Si multi-am vrut si-ntreb, da n-o raspuns.
Si-ntro secunada am simtit atata rost,
Dar el a disparut de parca nici n-a fost.

Refren: Tata, tata, asta-i prima data
In viata mea cand cred in ce nu-i drept.
Stiu ca nu-s mitel si inteleg ca niciodata n-ai Sa te intorci

    Dar te astept
    Poate altii te-au uitat demult
Dar la mama, sora, fratele, eu stiu precis
Ca de cand te-ai dus de-acasa usa inca Niciodata nu s-o-nchis
    Rau nu-mi pare, tata,
    Ca vreodata
Si de mine a sa zica cineva ca m-o pierdut
    Timpu-asa-i de crud
Cu dansu' nimeni, inca prieten nu s-o facut,
    Stii c rau imi pare,
    Si ma doare,
Din ce in ce mai tare,
    Tata stiu,
Ca am inceput sa te iubesc pe urma mai tarziu
    Dar d-amu', era tarziu.

This is moldavian and has some writing errors, but here it is

Asara am jisat un jis frumos,
Last night I dreamed something beautiful
    Di parca tata inapoi s-o-ntors,
As if my father came back
Da cand am vrut sa-l string in brate, sa-l cuprind,
But when I wanted to hold him in my arms, to embrace him,
O disparut dar singur am ramas plangand.
He disappeared but I was left alone crying
Si multi-am vrut si-i spun da nu i-am spus,
And a lot of things I wanted to tell him but I didn't
    Si multi-am vrut si-ntreb, da n-o raspuns.
And a lot of things I wanted to ask but he didn't answer
Si-ntro secunada am simtit atata rost,
And in a second I felt so much meaning
Dar el a disparut de parca nici n-a fost.
But he disappeared as If he hadn't even been there.

Refren: Tata, tata, asta-i prima data
Father, Father, this is the first time
In viata mea cand cred in ce nu-i drept.
In my life when I believe in what's not right
Stiu ca nu-s mitel si inteleg ca niciodata n-ai Sa te intorci
I know I'm little and I understand that you'll never come back
    Dar te astept
    But I'm waiting for you
    Poate altii te-au uitat demult
Maybe others forgot you a long time ago
Dar la mama, sora, fratele, eu stiu precis
But about my mother, sister, brother, i know exactly
Ca de cand te-ai dus de-acasa usa inca Niciodata nu s-o-nchis
That since you've left home the door was never closed
    Rau nu-mi pare, tata,
    I'm not sorry, father
    Ca vreodata
    That sometime
Si de mine a sa zica cineva ca m-o pierdut
Somebody will say he lost me
    Timpu-asa-i de crud
    Time is so cruel
Cu dansu' nimeni, inca prieten nu s-o facut,
With it nobody made friends yet
    Stii c rau imi pare,
You know how sorry I feel
    Si ma doare,
    And it hurts me
Din ce in ce mai tare,
    More and more
    Tata stiu,
    Father I know
Ca am inceput sa te iubesc pe urma mai tarziu
That I started loving you later
    Dar d-amu', era tarziu.
    But then, it was late.

thanks Layla, for that! I must confess to my shame that I did not even google this song, as I have the others that I have been learning Romanian/Moldovan from. =blush=

thank you Krityx, for your translation, I enjoyed comparing it with the translation in the link above, to gain a wider understanding of the words and phrases.
Can you tell me what sort of things mark the language as pure Romanian, or that spoken in Moldova? I picked up the <dar> versus <da'> and things like <j> for <v>, and <s-a> for <s-o>, <string> for <strang> etc, although I am not sure whether these are actual differences in dialect or spelling mistakes. I often see <cant> versus <cint> etc, and wonder if these things are typos or regional language differences.
    thanks!

Moldavian can't be called a dialect, it's basically romanian but with a different pronounciation and some regionalisms. If written correctly you can't distinguish moldavian from romanian because it's the same thing.

da' = dar. This is found everywhere, romanian, moldavian, everything. It's just that people are too lazy to pronounce the "r" and all you hear is da' (not to be confused with da[=yes]), sometimes people forget the ' although in writing this is a mistake. when you write you always write daR unless you're writing a song, poem or something like that in which case you can use da', but i'm almost sure that if you use it in writing something in an exam you'll have problems.

s-a = s-o, here it's about the pronounciation, moldavians say s-o but it means exactly the same thing.

strang, string and cant, cint they are all spelling mistakes.

i and a with a "^" above are the same letter, same spelling but in writing there is a rule
i^ is used ONLY as the very first or the last letter in a word for example : incantat - CORRECT, ancantat - INCORRECT
therefore strang is correct and cant is also correct, the other 2 with i^ are not.
