Default Tiziano Ferro - Assurdo Pensare

    Back again

Some tricky stuff in this one, let me know if I messed up

    Assurdo Pensare (Absurd To Think)

    Ci vediamo sabato
    See you on Saturday
    se non avrai da fare
if you don't have anything to do
    tutte le cose piccole
    All the young things
    mi fanno stare bene
    make me stay good
    tutte le cose fragili
    All the fragile things
    si fanno sempre amare
    always make themselves love
    e l'ho capito subito
    And I have suddenly understood
    sentendoti parlare
    hearing you talk
    sarà lo so sempre difficile
I know it will always be difficult
la vita mia è la tua al contrario
my life as opposed to yours
    ...ma simile
    but similar

    E' assurdo pensare
    It's absurd to think
    che a volte le cose
    that sometimes the things
    non vadano bene
    don't go well
    e vadano rese
    and feel like surrender
    E' assurdo pensare
    It's absurd to think
    che giunti a un traguardo
that you cross a finish line
    neanche ci arrivi
    you don't even reach it
    e diventa un ricordo
    and it becomes a memory
    E' assurdo pensare
    It's absurd to think
    ma è lecito farlo
but it's allowed to do so
    e son meno triste
    And I am less sad
    se almeno ti parlo
if I at least talk to you
    e invento momenti
    And I invent moments
    abbracci e consigli
    you embrace and you advise
    immagino storie
    I imagine stories
    le noie, gli abbagli
    the girls, the blunders
    che avrei calcolato
    that I'd have numbered
    se fossi capace
    if I were capable
che solo provando a fare meglio
That by only trying to do better
    mi renderai felice
    you will make me happy

    Però fondamentalmente tutto a posto
    However, basically all is well
    è che obbiettivamente non riesco
    It's that, objectively I don't succeed
è che la pazienza ci fa divertire
It's that it builds patience to have fun
    per noi innamorati
    for us, in love
    senza volerlo dire
    without wanting to say it

    E' assurdo pensare...

    E paralizzo la nostra memoria
    And I paralyze our memory
per non perderla mai più mai più
in order to not lose it ever again, ever again
E penso alle risate e a quanta gioia
And I think of the laughter and of all the joy
    che non toccheranno mai
    that will never touch
    nessuno mai
    anyone, ever

    E' assurdo pensare...

    mi renderai felice, felice, felice...
You will make me happy, happy, happy
    perché la pazienza fa dannare
    because the patience damns
    chi s' innamora
    those who are in love
    senza volerlo fare...
    without wanting to make it

Good job, because Tiziano's songs are difficult to translate! Here are some of my suggestions:

Thanks Lady A! That fare + infinitive form was driving me crazy. I see sometimes it's okay to just use the present tense.

Some silly mistakes. I looked "noia" up on wiktionary and mistakenly looked under "Catalan". How odd that in one language it's "girl" and in a related one it's "bore".

What do you think "render" means in this context?

The construction fare + infinitive is used in Italian to express the passive, to emphasize the fact that the subject of the action has another person perform the action for him or her.

e.g. Lei fa cucire il vestito dalla sarta.
She has the dress sewn by the dressmaker.

The construction andare + past participle is also used to express the passive, that fact that an action must be done.

e.g. The magazine must be published.
    La rivista va pubblicata.

As for the verb render, I'd say it means to give back, to return the feelings (of course figuratevely), once the relationship goes bad. It may also mean to express the things you have kept, once you foresee the realationship's end. At least that's how I see it, maybe a native can help us understand better
