    Default Flugzuege Im Bauch

Hi all! Im new around here. I use music to help me learn German. Im American and I live in Bavaria (see why I use other other resources to practice my German?... I do love Bavarians but really I cant understand them or mimick them very well). Anyway, I love the song Flugzeuge Im Bauch and I love hearing different artists come up with their own renditions of it. I would like an accurate translation of it to English though because I know that Im probably off in my own. Here are the lyrics in German:

*I copied these lyrics off of a lyrics website

    -Fluzeuge Im Bauch-

    du hast'n schatten im blick

    dein lachen ist gemalt

deine gedanken sind nicht mehr bei mir

    streichelst mich mechanisch

    völlig steril

eiskalte hand, mir graut vor dir

    fühl' mich leer und verbraucht

    alles tut weh

    hab' flugzeuge in meinem bauch

laß mich los, laß mich in ruhe

    damit das ein ende nimmt

    gib mir mein herz ...

    Thanks for your help!

Good Morning, right from the centr of Bavaria!!! :-)
I have found this english translation in the world wide web

actually Flugzeuge im Bauch means: ariplanes in my stomach
and he wants to express that he has a nervous feeling in his stomach, the feeling you have when you feel beed because of a sad situation.

    Here are the lyrics

    http://www.letzte-version.de/songbuc...es-in-my-head/

    Airplanes in my head
Tickets für Herbert Grönemeyer in Bochum 2009

    your eyes have clouded
    your smile is fixed
and your thoughts are far away from here
you kiss me like an actress
    then walk out of shot
    your indifference abundantly clear

    i'm empty, used up
    only dregs in my cup
    and airplanes in my head
    you shrug off my embrace
with a smile on your face
we should be sleeping in seperate beds

give me my heart back now
    it's half broken anyway
give me my heart back now
i beg you to go away
the sooner you walk out the door
the sooner i pick myself up from the floor

    you use me up
    like a pack of cigarettes
then crush me and cast me aside
you talk like it's a duty
    looking for your own beauty
while pretending to gaze in my eyes
    you're never there
    when i'm gasping for air
    and the airplanes all explode
    lifting off from the runway
    oh, this traffic is one-way
and we've come to the end of the road

Oh I juste noticed, that it is not a word for word translation, but more literally. But the meaning/the essence of the son gist given.

If you want it word by word, just tell us, we will try our best then.

    Default "Word for Word" Translation

FYI, "Flugzeuge im Bauch" is the same as "butterflies in my stomach" in English. Butterflies in my stomach isn't usually as dark of a thing as it is in this song. More along the lines of when you have a crush on someone, you get butterflies in your stomach. But people also use it if they have a big exam, etc. Any nervous feeling!

I'm going to try a more word-for-word translation here. I've never done this before, so feel free to correct!
PS. Not sure what version you like, but I lreally like Xavier Naidoo's re-make.

    "Butterflies in my Stomach"

You have shadows in your glances
    Your smile is painted on*
Your thoughts are no longer with me
    You caress me mechanically,
    completely sterile.

Ice-cold hands, I'm terrified of you.

    I feel empty and used,
    Everything hurts
I have airplanes in my stomach (butterflies in my stomach).

    I can't eat anything anymore
    I can't forget you
but even that I'm still successful at (??)*

    Give me my heart back,
    you don't need my love
    Give me my heart back
    before it breaks apart

    The earlier you leave
The easier it will be for me

I don't need anyone who torments me
    anyone who crushes me
anyone who uses me when he wants
wnyone who talks to me only out of a sense of duty
who only satisfies his vanity through me
    anyone, who is never there
when one needs him the most
when one is gasping for air, stranded.*

Let me go, leave me alone
so that this can come to an end.

    Give me my heart...

*The literal translation is "your laughter is painted." I think"your smile is painted on" makes more sense. There's no good English equivalent for "lachen ist gemalt" that I could think of!

*Help me out with this one! Gelingen is to be successful, I know that. But I totally don't "get" it in this context. There must be an idiomatic expression I'm missing!

*Not sure if "stranded" is accurate for "auf dem trocknen schwimmt" so please correct me if I'm wrong. I've never heard that actual expression before so I had to come up with a best guess!

    Hi beledigirl,
I think you have done it very good.

YOur smile is painted on... sounds very good

    I can't forget you
but even that I'm still successful at (??)*
(MAYBE you can say: but I even will manage this)

but I am not quite sure of this as my mother tongue is not english

    "stranded" sounds very good.

    Thanks for helping!

Thank you so much, Tahira and beledigrl! You both were big helps! I do like Xavier Nadoo's version the best so far. I even have it on my ipod!

Greetings! This thread sure is a bit in the past, but the following might be helpful all the same:

In my humble opinion you've almost grasped it, but not quite. See, like English, German has the idiom Schmetterlinge im Bauch, and the meaning
is the same as for the English counterpart: a tingling, joyful (and a bit anxious) anticipation (when you've just fallen head over heels for someone, say).

Now go ahead and imagine the butterflies replaced by airplanes. How would you feel then?

Right, it's the exact opposite: unbearably sick, constricted throat, crushed under a feeling of darkness
and impending doom. The narrator just lost his love, and he is devastated. This alienated saying is
Herbert Grönemeyer's way to express that state of mind (I don't remember to ever have encountered the
phrase "Flugzeuge im Bauch" anywhere else).
