    hey Boubou here u go;D

Cossack's regiments go in the steppe from Don(river in Ukraine)
one cossack just turns his head
ohh,he missed one cossack about home
put his head on hourse's mane

    ohh,his hairs is blowin
    he thought about home
ehh,he looked in the blue, steppe's distance
but he didnt see anything there

    cossack shacked head with forelock
and told to his friends with sadnees
ehh,my young heart is hurtin me
ohh brothers,u cant imagine how i want to go home

    go faster road
let pass away this thoughts and sadness
ehh ll put u dashing horse on rear
and pipes ur sword in moving

and in steppe, regiments with a big fame
just go and go and sing like a nightingale
    our feather-grass,native side
take from red horse soldiers our reverence

its so hard lyric for translation, cause its literary and English cant express all,so better listen to it in originaland if u learn Russian, good luck with it
    enjoysee u...

Hey, _i'm_little_one_! Exellent Job! But I want to correct you a little The river Don is not in Ukraine at all, but close to it... It's just for the info. I see this river in my window
the more languages we learn, the more we get to know the nature of people...

    i'm_little_one, i live in Rostov-on-Don!
and the funny thing about the Cossacs from this song... If translate from Russiаn, it has 2 meanings

1 - they are the cossacs living near the river Don
2 - they go home away from the Don

the more languages we learn, the more we get to know the nature of people...

ohh nice to meet ui wish to live in some cities which r so close to the rivers its so picturesque view Moscow isnt so good for that
i think that in that song they r meanin that cossacs return to the home from the Don(its more logical i think)

I know this thread is several years old, but it comes up on top of several google searches on the topic. It needs pointing out that the translation provided is appallingly poor - people ending up on this page through google ought to know.

I wouldn't bother trying to translate the song at all, it doesn't really translate into English. Any half-decent translation would need to provide too many footnotes to be even remotely enjoyable.
