oh sorry for the late answer, didnt notice someone answered.
I never heard the song on any radio (don't listen much radio though).
A neighbour of me copied vinyls on a cassette, it was 1989-90 I think (for sure not later) and gave it as gift to my sister (no, she can't remember anything of this tape) not later. And I can't contact this former neighbour anymore either...
It was in France (other songs on the tape were century - why, midnight oils - beds are burning, Alphaville - forever young, Banarama - Robert de Niro's waiting, Scorpions - Still loving you and some french songs of the mid - late 80s, as you can see all quite well-knows hits apart from the song from century and the song I am looking for :-/
I don't have the cassette anymore, I didn't think, back then, that I'll want to get the title of one song so freaking badly.
The song from Color me Badd doesn't nearly sound like the song I'm looking for. Nice song though
    Thx for the help

I KNOW WHAT IT IS NOW!!!

I know the name and artist of the song I was originally thinking of. I am 100% sure it is the song you are thinking of, because the lyrics match!

The song you are looking for is...

Who Loves You by The Four Seasons!

    hi,
thanks guys that you are still trying to help me!
This is not the song I am looking for, it doesn't even sound nearly similar. This one is way to groovy and waaaay too "disco". The song I'm looking for is more a ballad.
    Thanks though!

    Hey Little Girl--by unwritten law
    Album-golden love songs 5-special lady

It took a while to happen
But I woke up to you
The promises you made of love
    You never saw them through
    So darlin don't you cry
Tonight there's gonna be no lullabies for you and me
Can't you see, can't you see

    Chorus:
    Hey little girl
    I'll make you understand
I can never feel that way again
    And now you believe

    Hey little girl
    I 'll make you understand
I can never feel that way again
    And now you believe
    Can't feel that way again

No more magic in our love affair
The dreams we had for two
One tragic night, it's finally over
Believe in bad love you're through
    So darlin don't you cry
Tonight there's gonna be no lullabies for you

    Repeat Chorus

Default your high pitched male 70s song

Hello. I stumbled across this site looking for some recommendations for male duets and read your thread.

God I know the anguish of looking for a song -- a movie, a book.

Your quest itrigued me (as did your reward) and I thought the song/artist you might be looking for is When I Need You by Leo Sayer.

I've put it up on one of my servers for you to check out.

    http://www.redband.com/When_I_need_you.mp3

If it' what you're looking for, ping me via private message would you?

If that's not it, please repost your humming. Unfortunately, the link above has expired.

    Cheers,
    Mark in San Francisco

@sunshine: sorry I oversaw the mail telling me I got an answer. Nit this is not the song I'm looking for. As I said, what I'm looking for is a ballad duet and this one is way too rockish.

@emotif: No, this is not it either.

I uploaded the humming again, check the link in the first post.
    Thanks!

by the way, I found the song and I'm so so so happy now.
I was a bit wrong about the description, it wasn't a duet.
Thanks for all the folks at http://www.watzatsong.com and for the guys out there who tried to help me and especially to the guy who told me to try my luck at watzasong.
    Peace!

The song was: Mark Boyce - Hey Little Girl ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYluXR7iTnk ) and was only a bigger hit in France, eventhough the guy was from Australia.

Surely it's the same words/song as that recommended by Sunshine 26/8/09:

Might not have been the version you were looking for, but it was the same song!

oh indeed the lyrics are the same!
I didn't know much of the lyrics so I just listened to the song, which has from the melody nothing in common with the song from Boyle, so at this point it wasn't much of a help to me.
