    Hello everyone!
I am new to this board although I've been reading it as a Guest for quite a while.
I'll tell you my story. I am not Arab but I come from and Anglo-Indian background. We speak Hindi.
So around 5 years ago I made a friend from Kuwait who showed me some Middle Eastern music and I've been smitten since then!
I've started to hear specific words and I'm so in love with the music that I need to know the language so I can understand.

Please help me translate these words.

I have some ideas for these 3 words:

Aserni - written like: آسرني it means: had me imprisoned
Makhtar - maybe mi7tar? this means: perplexed
    Hagar - left

    great work ladies!

and I'd say the same as Layla said for "makhtar" unless you mean it from a part of "khtar" to choose

and hagar is left unless it's 7agar with a hard H.. then it would mean stone..

I appreciate this so much. It means I am able to start understanding the lyrics of my favourite songs.
I love Arabic music. I love Najwa Karam, May Hariri, Nancy, Elissa, Madeleine Matar, Nawal Al-Zoghbi, Darine Hadchiti, Reeda and Maya Nasri mostly.
    Thank you lovely ladies.

So ofcourse I have more words to ask because each day I begin to hear more words in the music.
You know how when you first listen to music in another language you have no idea what's going on.
For example I used to think the words of a Maya song were'
    Assi, assiolbi wama jarebek hi.
Then because I learn more words I realise it's actually...
Assi, assi albi wa ma jareb ehki.

Okay now I know that the WAYT word I was looking for is actually wa2t.
So what does the 2 sound like in wa2t?

Are there all letters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 able to be used to describe different sounds in the Arabic language?

Can someone please explain the numbers to me and give me an example of which words you can use them in?

    Shokran.

    wa2t - time

the numbers thing is explained in another thread.. I'll check it out and post you the link back here cuz I cant seem to remember which one

    Alaik - for you
    Andi - I have
Fakerni - you think I am
    Melish - maleesh - I dont have m3lesh - its ok
    Zalan - upset
Hateb - hateeb? I will get better
    Leerak -
    Dinsa -
Badak - Baddak - you want b3dak - still (in lebanese) or after you, or to explain someone leaving and being distant.. so it has a number of meanings here.. depending on the usage in the song

    And phrases

Min Tosod Inana - Do you mean me
Fakerni Wahas Bek - if youre thinking of Haifa's song fakerni she says "fakerni ha 3atbak" meaning "you think I am going to reproach you"
Fakra Shouf Alaik - this cant be right? cuz the statement doesn't make much sense..
Bahebak Moot - I love you to death
    Agmal Sodfa - Pleasant surprise
Ragab - this is a name
Enta Maya Ya Habibi - I think the second word is "ma3aya" so it means Darling you are with me
Wahdi Ansak - Alone I forget you
Ana Keteer Alaik - I am too much for you
Izzay Terafni - How do you know me
    Nefsee - I wish/hope/want
Shou Fiha Law - What's the big deal if..
    Nasra - Nazra - a glance/ a gaze
    Eddam - in front
    Ansak - forget you
    Mosh Hansak Saniya - I won't forget you for a second/moment
Leek Makhtagar - Leek is for you.. not sure about the other word
    Urba - 2orba - closeness
    Sheree -
    Erga - come back
    Keda - like this
Fiya - in me/ or I can (in lebanese)
    Liya - for me

Indian music is good but the thing is that you guys have so many accents and a lot a lot of songs. I used to watch indian channels back in the day and boy they never ran out of songs or dances. each song has a special dance its just amazing they even dance better than michael jackson

yeah what's the problem! the whole song is about the parrot!!
and it's not Haifa's song, it's originally by Warda!

Yes that's what it means and as Ego said it's originally by Warda

As for a normal thing to say.. I'm not sure.. It's probably odd in song but with the lyrics it's not strange..

And the songs lyrics go something like "I have a parrot.. that picks up everything I say and he studies all night.. then repeats it the next morning.. just as a good student would study for an exam"
