    Hello all, I am new here to the forum. I love Arabic music, and I also love Hindi music. I am trying to learn both languages by myself, I have a good start on that. I think starting a Hindi music thread would be cool, I would be into that.

    I love Arabic music. I love Najwa Karam, May Hariri, Nancy, Elissa, Madeleine Matar, Nawal Al-Zoghbi, Darine Hadchiti, Reeda and Maya Nasri mostly.
    Thank you lovely ladies.

    So ofcourse I have more words to ask because each day I begin to hear more words in the music.
    You know how when you first listen to music in another language you have no idea what's going on.
    For example I used to think the words of a Maya song were'
    Assi, assiolbi wama jarebek hi.
    Then because I learn more words I realise it's actually...
    Assi, assi albi wa ma jareb ehki.

    Okay now I know that the WAYT word I was looking for is actually wa2t.
    So what does the 2 sound like in wa2t?

    Are there all letters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 able to be used to describe different sounds in the Arabic language?

    Can someone please explain the numbers to me and give me an example of which words you can use them in?

    Shokran.
    Hello. Welcome to ATL
    3 = ع
    5 = خ
    7 = ح
    8 = ه
    9 = ق
    it changes from dialect to dialect. some dialects pronounce 2 ء (glottal stop) instead of (glottal friction) 9 ق
    It helps to differentiate the sounds if written in latin letters.

    Happy Learning!

    P/S: I was self taught Arabic too.
