Does anyone have the lyrics (in latin letters) of "Giati exeis fygei" by Giannis Ploutarxos?
Γιατί έχεις φύγει
Στίχοι: Κωνσταντίνος Κυρίτσης
Μουσική: Γιάννης Πλούταρχος
Πρώτη εκτέλεση: Γιάννης Πλούταρχος
Φόρεσε η νύχτα τα καλά της,
Forese i nihta ta kala tis
ήρθε απόψε να με βρεί
irthe apopse va me vri
μέσα στο άδειο μου το σπίτι,
mesa sto adio mou to spiti
μια καλησπέρα να μου πεί.
mia kalispera va mou pi
Με ρώτησε γιατί είμαι μόνος,
Me rotise iati ime monos
γιατί δεν έχω συντροφιά
iati den eho sidrofia
της είπα είχα μια αγάπη...
tis ipa iha mia agapi
μα δεν την έχω τώρα πιά
ma den tin eho tora pia
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Iati ehis figi
και δεν είπες ούτε λέξη,
ke den ipes oute leksi
γιατί έχεις φύγει
Iati ehis figi
και δεν είπες ούτε γειά!
ke den ipes oute ia
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Iati ehis figi
μες στην νύχτα σαν τον κλέφτη,
mes stin nihta san ton klefti
και με αφήνεις,
ke me afinis
να ζώ στη μοναξιά.
va zo sti monaksia
Και ένα απ τα μυστικά της
Ke ena ap ta mistika tis
θέλησε η νύχτα να μου πεί,
Thelise i nixta va mou pi
πως άν τελειώσει μια αγάπη,
pos an teliosi mia agapi
δεν τελειώνει και η ζωή,
den telione ke i zoi
μου είπε πως να βρω τον τρόπο,
mou ipe pos na vro ton tropo
για να γιατρέψω την καρδιά,
ia na iatrepso tin kardia
να κάνω δρόμο τα όνειρα μου...
na kano dromo ta onira mou
να μη χαθώ στη μοναξιά!
na mi hathi sti monaksia
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
και δεν είπες ούτε λέξη,
γιατί έχεις φύγει
και δεν είπες ούτε γειά!
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
μες στην νύχτα σαν τον κλέφτη,
και με αφήνεις,
να ζώ στη μοναξιά.
p.s. I wrote it out how you would pronounce it, but you can double-check with the man himself (i.e. by listening, that is)
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Why Did You Leave
Φόρεσε η νύχτα τα καλά της,
Night wore its best,
ήρθε απόψε να με βρεί
it came tonight to find me
μέσα στο άδειο μου το σπίτι,
inside my empty home
μια καλησπέρα να μου πεί.
to tell me good evening
Με ρώτησε γιατί είμαι μόνος,
It asked me why I'm alone
γιατί δεν έχω συντροφιά
why don't I have company
της είπα είχα μια αγάπη...
I told her I had one love
μα δεν την έχω τώρα πιά
but I don't have her any more
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Why did you leave
και δεν είπες ούτε λέξη,
and you didn't say a word
γιατί έχεις φύγει
Why did you leave
και δεν είπες ούτε γειά!
And you didn't even say bye
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Why did you leave
μες στην νύχτα σαν τον κλέφτη,
In the night like a thief
και με αφήνεις,
and you leave me
να ζώ στη μοναξιά.
to live in loneliness
Και ένα απ τα μυστικά της
And it's from her secrets
θέλησε η νύχτα να μου πεί,
night wanted to tell me
πως άν τελειώσει μια αγάπη,
how if a love ends
δεν τελειώνει και η ζωή,
a life doesn't end (along with it)
μου είπε πως να βρω τον τρόπο,
it told me to find the way
για να γιατρέψω την καρδιά,
to cure the heart
να κάνω δρόμο τα όνειρα μου...
to ditch my dreams (literally means "to make my dreams a road")
να μη χαθώ στη μοναξιά!
so I don't get lost in the loneliness
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Why did you leave
και δεν είπες ούτε λέξη,
and you didn't say a word
γιατί έχεις φύγει
why did you leave
και δεν είπες ούτε γειά!
and you didn't even say bye
Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Why did you leave
μες στην νύχτα σαν τον κλέφτη,
in the night like a thief
και με αφήνεις,
and you leave me
να ζώ στη μοναξιά.
to live in loneliness
This was a really quick translation that I didn't have time to check over, but here you go
Good morning,
The translation seems fine, if I may, I'll post some minor corrections...
You cannot refer to the night as "it", and then to the love as "she". Both are non-person terms, so "it", "its" would be the correct form. If "poetic licence" is utilized however, it should still be so in all cases.Φόρεσε η νύχτα τα καλά της,
Night wore its best,
............
ήρθε απόψε να με βρεί
it came tonight to find me
............
Με ρώτησε γιατί είμαι μόνος,
It asked me why I'm alone
............
της είπα είχα μια αγάπη...
I told her I had one love
I think, but I'm not sure, that "Γιατι" should be conveyed as "Because" (διότι, επειδή) and not "Why" (questioning γιατί). While hearing the song, "Because" appears to make more sense, but I don't know.Γιατί έχεις φύγει,
Why did you leave
........
γιατί έχεις φύγει
Why did you leave
Finally, I have the impression that the "πως" should be conveyed as "that" instead of "how". Questioning "πως" is normally stressed (πώς).πως άν τελειώσει μια αγάπη,
how if a love ends
δεν τελειώνει και η ζωή,
a life doesn't end (along with it)
Other than that, the translation seems fine, in my eyes anyway.
Best regards,
Alexander.
