1:11 Aussi Loin que Je Sois
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Johnathan:

    Qu’importe qu’elles soient immenses
    L’amour se fait confiance.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:11 No Matter how Far/However far I am
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notes: *this line is literally - ' better for us to return, forever, forever'
**Valle des fous - valley of the madmen - figurative of a midst the madness: i.e.
Love must meet again amidst this madness. Changed 'the' to 'this' for clarity

    Johnathan:
    You have returned to me
    Only to depart,
Tell me, when will you come back for the last time?
Where do you go to, where will I go -
We should be together forever and ever*

    Mina:
Believe it - I am far away, but wait for me,
In the depths of your bed, in shelter* of your arms [Lit: heat]
You are my everything, the [only] one in whom I believe
Tell me you will love me, no matter how far away I am?

    Johnathan & Mina:
    Let's forget the distance,
it doesn't matter anymore [of no importance]
Love must meet again in this Valley of Fools**
Let's forget the suffering, it doesn't matter,
    how great they are,
[When] we believe* in Love [lit: rely on]

    Mina:
    Tell me what you see
    When I am not there

    Johnathan:
In the warmth of your bed,
In the depths of your arms

    Mina:
You are my everything, the one in whom I believe
Tell me you will love me no matter -

    Mina & Johnathan:
    How far away I am
    Let's forget the distance,
    it doesn't matter anymore,
Love must meet again in this valley of Fools
Let's forget the suffering it doesn't matter
    How great they are -
    When we believe in love.

    Good work!
I'm producing subs too - not that far along as yet, tweaking text here and there - (there are a few adjustments to be made) I'll add dialogue to my posts here where they appear in the text.....

Hi BlueJacket when you will publish the song Je suis in English and the rest of the song pourquoi

    Dis-moi pourquoi

    Dis-moi pourquoi
Mes yeux mon âme et ma mémoire Dis-moi pourquoi
L’or de ma vie mon seul espoir Dis-moi pourquoi Réponds je veux savoir

    Montre-moi ton visage

    Hi Nao17,

If you look back at post number 65, you will see I've already corrected my original post of 'Pourquoi' - I checked it against the DVD and the text is now complete and correct. 'Je Suis' will be up soon - I'm going to check my posts and add dialogue where it appears before my last post. It will be worth checking my original posts for additions/changes.

Default Dialogue 1:16 Renfield & Johnathan 1:17: Dracula, Johnathan & Renfield

This dialogue comes between songs 'A Sinking Ship' & ' We Are What We Are'.

    --------------------------------------------------
    1:16 Renfield, Jonathan
    ---------------------------------------------------
    Renfield: Ah!!!!!!!!!!!

    Johnathan: Ha-ha-ha, Renfield!

    Renfield: Jonathan!

    Johnathan: Ah? Tu rêvais?

    Renfield: Oui! Cauchemar! Cauchemar!

Johnathan: C’est à cause de ça?

    Renfield: Peut-être.

Johnathan: Ça vient du Comte valait -

    Renfield: Qui?

Johnathan: Viens!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1:16/17 Dialogue
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    note:
    * literally 'this is as the root of the story.' changed it to 'heart of the matter' - a more colloquial rendition would be, 'nub of the matter'
** freely adapted from the first words Dracula utters in Bram Stoker's novel.....'Enter freely. Go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring!'

    Renfield Ahhh!!!!

    Johnathan (laughs) Renfield!

    Renfield Johnathan!

    Johnathan Eh? You’ve been dreaming?

    Renfield: Yes! Nightmares, Nightmares!

Johnathan: Is it because of that?

    Renfield: Perhaps.

    Johnathan: It’s from Count Wallachia.

    Renfield: Yes [is it]?

Johnathan: Let's see! Renfield - this is the heart of the matter. *
He can tell us what happening here.

Renfield: Is that what you've been looking for?

Johnathan: It's exactly what we’ve been looking for. A coffin? That’s odd....

    Renfield: Wait...

    Dracula:
Welcome to my house! Enter freely. Go safely, and when you depart do not forget to leave something of the happiness you bring!**

Johnathan: Count Wallachia? I am very honoured to meet you.

Dracula: It's an honour for me too, Mr Harker! Johnathan Harker. The great journalist. You write [down] in the black and white, the deepest thoughts of the people.

Johnathan: I try to. If they tell me the truth.

Dracula: The truth? The truth does not exist Mr Harker! We all lie when it is a question of burying the darkest voices of our souls. No photographs, if you please, Renfield. The cameraman. Or perhaps video artist. You grasp more of the truth than your friend, since a picture is worth a thousand words.

    Renfield: A picture never lies!

Dracula: You see so much gentlemen, but you understand so little!

bluejacket, you've done a massive amount of work translating the lyrics, and for that I admire you but
I'm sorry to say that your translation is far from accurate. It could be all right if it were just liberally translated, but your translation contains many misplaced meanings, which are very clearly stated in the original.

    For example,
Original: 1:5: Cruelle Et Tendre Mina
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dracula:

    Elhemina:
Prince ne parle pas au ciel
Ce n'est pas ta voix qu'il entend
Lui qui sur ma bouche de miel
A déposé le goût du sang

    Your translation:
    Dracula:
Heaven has opened and given me [lit: The sky opens and gives me]
    My reason d'etre on earth
    It gives, and it forgives
this warrior for having made the war
For heaven has opened and sent me
A cause to which I can dedicate my life
For she loves Dracula at last,
And lays down upon my bed.

    Elhemina:
Prince, do not speak of Heaven
That is not the secret voice you hear
But He who has left upon my lips
The taste of blood like honey.

Whereas it would be more accurately translated as follows:
    Dracula:
Let heaven open and give me
    My meaning of life
Let it give me [the said reason], and let it forgive
the warrior for having made the war
Let heaven open and send me
that [woman] to whom I dedicated my life
Let her love Dracula at last,
And let her lay down upon my bed.

    Elhemina:
Prince, do not speak to Heaven
It's not your voice it [or he] hears
He, who has left upon my honey(moon) lips
    The taste of blood.

    Another example:
    Elhemina :
Je porte en moi un lourd secret
Je suis la reine d'un empire
Qui ne vivra jamais en paix
Et qui vous menera au pire

    Your translation:
    Elhemina:
I carry within me a heavy secret
I am the Queen of an empire
Which will never live in peace
With you the tyrant king [lit: with you the worst ruler]

    Correct translation:
    Elhemina:
I carry within me a heavy secret
I am the Queen of an empire
Which will never live in peace
And that will lead you to destruction. - Not "with you, the tyrant king", mind you. Elhemina loves him, for God's sake! But she knows that she will eventually be the death of him and she feels sorry for him, but can't help it.

    Duo :
Elhemina choisis, c’est Jonathan ou Dracula

    -------------------------------------------------------------
2:14: Between Love & Death (Two Faced Love)
    --------------------------------------------------------------

[Note: I've looked at this again and while 'Elhemina chooses' is strictly speaking a correct translation, were the words to have been written in English originally, I believe the line would have been 'Elhemina must choose', that being grammatically correct and more natural for an English speaker. Both are fine, just a matter of personal preference.]
Here, too. "Elhemina choisis" is a plain and simple second person imperative. Why 3rd person?
Choose, Elhemina! Who do you choose: Johnathan or Dracula?

    I could go on

    Hi Snezhinka,

Yes, it appears I have made a few mistakes along the way - 'Let heaven etc' is more correct, and 'lead you to destruction' is certainly what it should be, but thinking about it though, wouldn't a closer version of
Lui qui sur ma bouche de miel -
A déposé le goût du sang

    be -

He, who left upon my honeyed lips
    the taste of blood.

Feel free make corrections I appreciate any opportunity to learn from my mistakes. As I stated, my aim was merely a fair translation, keeping to the rhythm and tone rather than the letter of the piece. Nevertheless, I can fully understand that silly slips can be annoying....There's always room for improvement !

Sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to. It's just that the meaning comes first, in my opinion, and the rhythm comes second. I will be glad to contribute to the best of my abilities, of course.

    For Halloween !
    -----------------------------------------------------------
2:7 Je Suis / The Temple of Satan
    -----------------------------------------------------------

    -------------------------------------------------------
2:7 I am (aka) The Temple of Satan
    -------------------------------------------------------

    Notes:
*When Dracula refers to himself as a star presaging the destruction of Time, it may be a subtle reference to Wormwood - the destructive star referred to in the Book of Revelation.
** this line is literally 'The false glance of the unsighted/blind'
*** absolu - absolute, total, utter.
**** 'Camp' implies 'death camp' - a way of expressing his total isolation.

With Renfield dead, Dracula finds himself once more alone. This is Dracula's lament for himself, when he sees not only what he has become, but by implication, what he might have been.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vampiress 1: If the day begins* at midnight, [*lit: rises, gets up]
    when the sun is cold
Vampiress 2: If death hides in life, do we see what we see?
Vampiress 3: Nothing is ever as we believe. [lit: think it is]

    Dracula:
I am not as I seem,
    Hidden behind my appearance,
There is a wounded being who prays
for an end to this kingdom of suffering

I know that in all living things exists
A fear of the Devil and of God.
    That's why happiness is sad,
And nature is still beautiful when it rains.

I am all the sorrows that be, (i.e I am all the sorrows that exist)
    The Lord of Torments (Agonies)
I am the star of disaster* at the end of Time - [*destruction/calamity]
    The Temple of Satan.

I am the Prince of the Living dead,
The shadow in the corner of your eye,**
I am the rider of the wind
    The hair of giants -

    I am the last survivor
    Liberated from the camp ****
    I am an utter Monster-
The human soul in the raw*. (*Lit: exposed)

I am all the sorrows that be,
    The Lord of Torments
I am the star of disaster at the end of Time -
    The Temple of Satan.

    Vampiressess:
Oh but who are you really?
Are you guilty * or are you innocent? [* lit: culpable]

    Dracula:
I am both at the same time
    The werewolf and the hunter
I am the crime and the punishment
I am the dagger* in my [own] heart [*lit: blade]

And if I die, I do so by my own hand
This is my punishment; to know
It is I who says 'I love you'
In the light of every star.

I am all the sorrows that be,
    The Lord of Torments
I am the star of disaster at the end of Time -
    The Temple of Satan.

Talking Dracula: Entre L'Amour et Mort Translated Subtitles

Better late than never After much delay (funny how school does that), I have finished subtitling all of Dracula with the translations on this forum, meaning it is 99% complete with one piece of Dracula's dialog missing at the beginning of Advance. The subtitles are still a little rough in a few spots, and I will be working to fix that at some point, but feel free to use the subtitles for your own personal use in the meantime. I did make some tiny word choice changes here and there.

To note, there is a two frame difference in length between my video file and the DVD video. I am pretty sure now those frames are missing at the beginning. So if you mind the 70ms offset, you will need to write a program that corrects all of the subtitle times. The DVD uses 30fps with the drop frame (29.97). Sorry about that.

I can't thank you all enough for making this possible.

UPDATE: I've watched through the subtitles a few times and fixed all the fat finger errors as well as few timing errors I saw. At this point, it is good enough to say 'complete'.
