OK...I've been looking for this song for years. What I remember... I'm sure that the rock band is from the US. The song is the last song on an album and I'm pretty sure that the songs secondary title is "A song for Billy". I remember being so emotional whenever I heard the song. I had the album but it was stolen from my collection when it was in storage at a friends house.

The songs lyrics are from the perspective of this solder, lying in a ditch, wounded, is going to die and he's reflecting on this war he is in. Some of the words I do remember....

"what about the people who love me, who'll never see me anymore"

"I didn't want your goddam war"

The ending lyric....."were it not for Jesus, nobody would even see me die"

I can hear the music in my head but I can't remember much more in the way of lyrics.
Any help is certainly appreciated. I'll give you my fourth born.
