this is the song you are looking for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kYWHpuKSiI
and the lyrics:
and why, may I ask, are you crying?
It's personal. Has to do with the song's context...
"I have fear for nothing and I have hope for nothing, I am, therefore, free."
Nikos Kazantzakis
sorry, never meant to intrude...
Evharisto para, ma para poli pedia.....
parakalo!
No worries. The thoughts are mine, so mine too is the responsibilty to deal with them.
For the time being and since we are getting off-topic, I translated the song, with a few comments.
'Ενα πρωινό-One Morning
Ena proino, i Panagia mou
One morning, my Virgin Mary
Tha erthi na me vri, stin akrogialia
Will come to find me, at the waterside
Pelago krifo, ta onira mou
An open sea concealed, my dreams (are)
Ki estiles esi, varka me pani
And then you sent, a boat with a sail
Poso s' agapo kanis den xeri
How much I love you, nobody knows
ki an tha m' agapas, mikro mou teri
And whether you love me, my little mate
kalokerino, s' agapo
of the summer, I love thee
Tha stathis psila, sto parathiri
You ‘ll stand high at the hatch
Pano sta malia, astra tou notia
Onto your hair, stars of south wind
Ehi h Panagia karavokiri
Virgin Mary has a skipper
To sail us away, beyond the land…
Poso s' agapo kanis den xeri
How much I love you, nobody knows
ki an tha m' agapas, mikro mou teri
And whether you love me, my little mate
kalokerino, s' agapo
of the summer, I love thee

The lyrics, as they are, probably make little or no sense in English. Sadly there is nothing that can be done about it. Some meanings simply cannot be conveyed in another language. But this is definetely one of most melancholic, sad and melodic love songs ever composed in Greek language. Everyone in Greece has heard it, fallen in love with it, cried with it…
Perhaps one can easier perceive if he/she watches the original movie, Koritsia ston ilio (Girls in the sun), shot in B/W in 1968, it can be found here:
Full movie:
http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/ca...329583SMf9445X (I have not and cannot watch it on my laptop, hope it works).
For the record it talks about the summer amour of a English tourist girl with a Greek shepherd in the Greek island of Andros. The relationship between them grows very strangely, since the girl does not speak Greek, nor does the shepherd speak English. It’s a time when words loose their sense and a simple but sincere glance tells a lot, way a lot more and needs no translation…
It was the official Greek participation for the Academy award for best foreign movie for 1970.
Best regards,
Alexander.
