According to the Dixie Echoes discography on their Official Website, they didn't record a song titled "Too Near the Cross;" but they did record one on several albums titled "Too Near the Crown" (and in 1975, on the album called Today, it was listed as "Too Near the Crown To Lay Down the Cross." In my research, it is almost exclusively titled "Too Near the Crown."

I have looked for the lyrics, but have not found them yet. I'll try to continue to search for them.

    P. S. There is a song called "Too Near the Cross" but it was not recorded by the Dixie Echoes. It was recorded by: Bible Women Music (label) in 2004, this probably isn't the one you are looking for but you may want to check it out:

    Hope this helps

As best as I can do Quite a short song!

Too near the cross, the soldier barks
So we draw back, with a sigh
We Marys and others who followed Jesus
Cry as we watch him die.

The men hang back, perhaps ashamed
    We'd all deserted Christ
And now he hangs there with blood on his hands
    Blood coming from his side.

He speaks so softly, forgives us all
Surely this man is God, Oh, why is he dying?
Will he come back? We're all in dismal fog.

We'll go to market to buy the spices
For his body in the tomb
Soon after the Sabbath we'll find the grave
    Through our sorrow, gloom.
    होता है जो होना है ... वक़्त ही शायद खुदा है ...
    कौन कहता है आदमी अपनी किस्मत खुद लिखता है?
