Question SOLVED: What's this 50's Song

    Pa pa pa pa pa
Saw him go into the jungle
    Pa pa pa pa pa
Said he'd be back with a mother
    Now I'd like to know
    Where did he go
With a fish hangin over his shoulder

I've been singing those few lines from a late 50's / early 60's song since I was a kid and I'd really like to find the rest of the lyrics and/or title. Someone had once suggested that it sounded like something Harry Belafonte might have sung but, from what I can recall (very vaguely at this point), I'm pretty sure it was a female group and I don't recall any accent. Anyone with a memory going back that far?

I remember this song too but I remember the 4th line as Said he'd be back when I'm older. My mother had the album and there was a girl on the cover with two blonde braids and a straw hat. She had on a white and red checkered shirt. Can't find that album anywhere in my mother's house now. She must've thrown it out along with others I wished she had kept. It was definitely a girl singer.

Congratulations. I've been trying to find this one for several years now and you're the first person who even remembers it. Thanks. I wouldn't bet money on my recollection of that 4th line - it's just the way I remembered it. I don't remember the album either - thought it was just a 45 with a purple label.

My mother has sung these few lines also and I've been looking for more information on this song...I'd love to find it somewhere and purchase it for her...Does anyone else have any leads on this?

    Thanks in advance...

I think something that will prove useful is the cover of the album. It sounds like someone that was young at the time. I will look into a few Artists, and I will start off with someone lke Jaye P Morgan (born Mary Margaret Morgan).

I know that Capitol records has the purple label (maybe some other record companies too, but I know only about Capitol). Hope it will be helpful.

Very nice to hear. Look at it this way, it's an early Mother's Day present.

I remember it as: "Pa pa pa pa pa, I saw him go into the jungle, Pa pa pa pa pa, With a fish hanging over his shoulder. Pa pa pa pa pa, He said he'd be back when I'm older, Now I'd like to know, Where did he go, with a fish hanging over his shoulder?". I don't remember any other verses or the title.
