Yes you're right! It's better to substitute afternoon with evening It best fits here
вечер means evening, as well as afternoon, but in the lyrics it's best to use evening. (English is not my native language, so I apologize for this)

Also.
Но такая ранa не проходит, нет = But such a wound, won't heal, no!
