A little remark on the use of the past tenses in English and German: They may seem similar in their form but their use is completely different.
German: The simple past (du sagtest) is hardly ever used in spoken language. It's the tense used for narrating. The past perfect (du hast gesagt) is the normal past tense everyone uses to express past events in spoken language. So the difference between the two forms is a question of register or style.
English: The simple past (you said) is used to express past events that have no direct relation with the present. The past perfect (you have said) is used to express past events that still affect the present. So here there really is a difference in the meaning.
Just keep an eye on that while translating, you can not always use the same tense in German and English!

A second remark on indirect speech: The rules for changing the tenses in indirect speech are lot more strict in English. You are a native speaker - this sentence has to sound wrong to your ears! In English, indirect speech always goes one step back into the past. Example:
You said: "I like you" --> You said that you liked me (which by the way is also the correct translation for this sentence )

thanks for the help with corrections. HaHa! I have enough trouble when I have the right words, when I manage to get the wrong ones its all downhill. My ears are still very bad at hearing the german words to a song I don't have the written words for and so I rely on the kindness of strangers many times to provide the lyrics. You have to take what you can get. I try to listen through but sometimes I miss even obvious mistakes. Thanks again for the explanations. They really do help me understand better.

translate to
" Sorry, i am repellent against guys like you"

"Leider" is mostly translated to "sorry" rather than "unfortunately(for you)".

So

"As a rule, guys are really phenomenal, only you have unfortunately bad luck"

is imho better

"As a rule, guys are really phenomenal, sorry, only you have bad luck".

Thanks for the help. "imprägniert", in this context, it seems very difficult to get the idea across in English and have it sound normal, hence the note to clarify. "Proofed" sounds more normal to me than "repellent" even "resistant" sounds good but resistant and repellent are not necessary imparted characteristics, whereas imprägniert, I think, means an imparted characteristic, such as waterproofed or soundproofed. So for now I will stick with what I have with your other improvements. Thanks for the tips about "leider".

Imho, unfortunately is perfectly fine for "leider"! Sorry kinda goes in the same direction, but they both work fine I guess.

"Imprägniert" is not a word you would normally use in this context. In fact I have only heard it to describe the quality of fabrics. Like shoes that are waterproof or bags or jackets or whatever. But I guess the idea of the song is that she feels kinda superior to the guy and she also shows that by using kind of a high-end latin vocabulary such as "differenziert", "interpretiert" and "imprägniert".
