im working on it..i's difficult due to it's antiquity and to the extreme classic style of the poem she's singing...not to mention her pronunciation and enunciation.

these poems/ballads were never meant to be translated

for us to translate them it's like really letting the genie out of the bottle..

by tonight i'll have it done...

Default Hazehi Leyleti/This is My Night - This is my Night - Om Kalthoum

    Some info you may like

    Year : 1968
    Music : Mohamed Abdel Wahab
    Lyrics: George Jordaq
    Maqam : Kurd
    Genre : Qasidah
    Time : 32:07

hazehi leyleti we hulmu hayati, beyn madi'n min el zaman we aati
al hawa anta kulluhu wel amani, fe imla el kas bil gharam we hati
ba'd heenin yubeddil el hub dara, wel 'asafir tahgur el awkara
we diyarun kanet Qadiman diyara, satarana kama naraha qifara

this is my night, and the dream of my life is between the past and the future
passion, you're all of it, and all the wishes, so fill up the glass with love and give it to me
after a while love changes homes and birds abandon their dens
and homes, which were old homes, will see us as we see them, savage

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
saufa talhu bina el hayatu wa taskhar , fa ta'ala uhibbuka al aan-a akthar
wel masau ellezi tahada ileyna, thomma asgha wel hub fi muqlateyna
lesualin 'an el hawa wa gawabin wa hadisin yethub fi shafateyna
qad taal al wuquf heena da'ani leyalum el ashwaqa 'an agfani
fa adnu minni wa khud ileyka hanani, thomma aghmadh 'ayneyk hatta tarani
welyakun leyluna taweelan taweela, fakatheer alleqaa kan qaleela

Life will amuse us and laugh, so come, i'll love now even more
and the night wobbled towards us and then listened, with our eyes full of love.
for a question about love and a letter/reply as conversations melt on our lips
I had been standing for long when he called me to collect the desire off my eyelids
approach me closer and take my tenderness, then close your eyes until you can see me
let it be so that our night becomes very long, for much of our meetings have been short

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Life will amuse us and laugh, so come, i'll love you now even more
Oh Beloved, love's becoming sweeter, so what if we had to carry the days in our hands (palms)
a coincidence dedicated all of existence to us, and provided us our meeting
in seas where the winds stretch, in it the paddle and the sailor are lost
how separation let down our rendezvous every night if we met early

ya Habiban qad tala feeh suhadi,
    wa ghariban musafiran be fuadi

Beloved, has carried much of my insomnia
and strangely still travels with my mind

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
saufa talhu bina el hayatu we taskhar , fa ta'ala uhibbuka al aan-a akthar
sahar al shawq fil oyun' al gamilah hulmun aathir al hawa an yatilah
wa hadisun fil hub in lam naqulh awshak assamt holina an yaqulah
fika samti we fika nutqi we hemsi, fika samti, we ghadin fi hawak yasbeq emsi

Life will amuse us and laugh, so come, i'll love you now even more
the wakefulness of desire inside the beautiful eyes, the dream that prefers love to be lengthy
and talk of love if we were not to mention it, for silance is about to speak of it
my beloved, you are my wine and my cup and my hopeful risks and my joy to forgetfulness
you have my silence, my utterance, my whispers....and tomorrow comes before yesterday
(intoxicated in your love that tomorrow comes before yesterday)

those who share my night have they the imagination to regret?
and the forgetfullness to embrace their canvases?

wa tasaqu min khatiri al ahlam
wa ahabbu we askaru el ayyam

and from my mind, dreams were dragged out
and went to love and drunk as the days went

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

rabbi min ayna lizzaman Sibahu in ghadawna subhuhu wa masahu
lan yarra al hub ba'dina min wahdih nahnu leyl el hawa we nahnu thuhah

Lord, where have time found its youth, if we'd became its mornings and it's nights
love won't see anyone besides us, as we're the nights of love and we're its victims

mill' qalbi shawqun we mill' kayani
hathihi leyleti fa qif ya zamani

my heart's full of desires and my whole entity
this is my night, so stop the time!

Life will amuse (fool us around) us.... and laugh, so come, i'll love you now even more

    --------------

Took me long, and I don't need to explain, plus it's a workweek. This is a classic poem. One of my favorite songs/poems Hence why i tried to translate it or would have given up. Word by word. of course much of the meaning and beauty is lost in translation.

    enjoy...

PS: you don't speak Arabic I suppose, so why do you like Om Kolthoum? she's very very mystical, but what makes this song special besides her singing is the poem... just wondering. liking a modern pop song like Amr Diab's or Elissa's i can understand but this... all I can say you have expensive taste.. it's interesting find such people.

The song is 32 minutes, and on youtube there is only one with 10 minutes. if you don't have the full version let me know.

    Download song
    Source
(hope they will have no complaints & if you'll want, I can upload it on any other filesharing server, just let me know on what)
This version is mixed with some program or smth (I don't know), but it's short, just in begin and end.
I remember I had also a studio version but now I can't find it on my HDD and in the web and download it from the site I downloaded it in the past.

Selamunaleykum Oh my dear friend so sorry for my late answer to you.I had something important to do nowadays and I couldnt reply.
Firstly thank you so much to translate the song. You really made my dreams come true. And you are right that I dont speak Arabic but I try to learn it by myself because this year I am trying to finish my university after finishing I am gonna go to a course of Arabic exactly.Because I love that language.
Oum Kalthoum has a mystery which make you adhere mysteriously. Her voice is really impressive but also has so many feelings and something which couldnt be explained at all. When I listen to her my soul gets fun and pain at the same time.Arabic music is so oriental and mixing up lyric and the music makes you impressed I think thats feeling is called "ecstasy" in Arabic "Tarab"
That happens to me everytime by listening to her
About this song,I have been knowing the name of the song in translation."Hazehi layleti" "this is my night".And I forgot to say that I am a musician because of I get many inspiration in the night. So saying "this is my night" is so important for me because every night I feel so many things at the same time.Because of that I was really curious about the song.
And now I know what it means. And I am learning the true feelings of true love.
Thats all which I can say my friend
You are wonderful.I hope you will find so many things in love in your life
    Take care of you

    Thank you,

Glad you liked it. if you have anymore of OM Kalthoum's i'll try to translate. there are many of her songs/poems translated but very few get the message across..

PS: if you want to learn arabic classical arabic is probably not the right type... but then you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. it's not the colloquial language used in daily life, only in literature..and classical music.

Om Kalthoum is magical, and has many inspired fans from Bob Dylan, to U2 to many opera singers.. I listen to Inta Omri once everyday i wake up. It's the most complete song ever, with near perfect quality, being sung by the best voice in human history...

She's worshipped by millions and inspires millions.

    enjoy!
