No title for this yet (yes, some is lifted from the teen speech youtube video)

These days youth is worshipped,
Projected as divine, a mass of individuals,
Collectively defined.

Cause advertising youth is the newest invasion,
They germinate within us, make us hate ourselves for ageing.

So we're the ones to blame for scandalous moral panics?
Happyslaps and young addictions, a new culture so manic,
With dysfunctions and depictions of the violence on the street.
You objectified the youth, now you don't hear us speak.

You gave us rules and boundries, told us get in line,
But you did it all at my age, I guess you turned out fine?
So at war our generations are evenly matched,
but here's the fine print, the twist, the catch.

We're only ever demonised or exulted,
Ritolin solved the problem of invoking our focus
Kids are painfully shy or shockingly ferocious.
Bursting with ambition or beaten down and hopeless
But we arnt all ASBO hoodies, or an episode of skins,
We're all people just like you, with shy smiles and awkward grins.

So our youth can't be defined by mindless angry yobs,
Some of them are young mothers, holding down honest jobs.
Some set the bar too high, give in and join the mob,
Others strive to be happy, doing things they're proud of.

Some kids learn their morals by testing new sensations,
Others ignore responsibility to indulge in their temptations,
To blank out the world, curl up and go to sleep,
Cause these days it's just easier to admit your own defeat.

Some put themselves on show, others like staying hidden,
The weaker kids are bullied, battered into submission,
Where was their voice, their choice, the one you were given?
We look at the world with ignorance and indifference,
Because with no obstacles, success has no significance.

So if you're compassionate or arrogant,
Dark, dull or magnificent,
Just like every generation that's gone and still to come,
We have the potential to change,
The power to see our will done.

But hopefully when we grow up, all of us or some,
We won't forget those dreams,
We still had when we were young
