Here's a tough one, never ever managed to find this version.
It's a reggae-pop rendition, and should have been released in the 1982-85 span.

Since I'd rather say that I suck at singing, I recorded this 2 years ago on my synth setup.
The lead sound with the "Coco Jamboo"-reminiscent pan flute attack normally supposed to be the lead vocals and in high pitch it is supposed to imitate the original synth used in the recording.
As usual when I try to arrange things, it sounds not 80s anymore but a 90s remix

Nonetheless the off-beat chords are exactly as on my (lost!) original recording.
Now I'm really surprised if you can nail this one after over 25 years of no avail.

    It is not Frankie Miller.
Alison Moyet did another 80s version, but it's a version in a tempo similar to that of the Joe Cocker Woodstock version of "With A Little Help..."

I searched for an artist that released the song in that timeframe.

There was only one I could find.

"Love letters" by Joe Walsh from his 1983 album "You Bought It, You Name It"

I couldn't find a sample to see if fits the genre, but it was popular during the 80's to blend in elements of reggae.

    Tim Chandell - Love Letters

I also found an obscure artist named 'Hazard' that released a 45 record in 1983 titled 'Love Letters' I could not found any information regarding the artist or genre.

    Thumbs up

Thanks to the both of you! I will listen...

    [edit]... 2 minutes later ...

    CHRIST, THAT CANNOT BE TRUE!!

What an unsuccessful hunt for 2 and a half decades and you guys solve that thing in less than 2 days !!!

But maybe it was the Pac-Man anniversary (and the low productivity in offices due to the whole caboodle playing the thing) that made these two days stand under an extraordinarily good star

    A-ma-zing!

Joe Walsh is actually the one! (Ex-member of the legendary EAGLES.) Thanks Fence Sitter for the hot hint and jp for the amazon reference!

It's even on discogs - but that's as far from "Hard Rock" (genre listed there) as Bon Jovi are from heavy metal!

    You're most welcome.

Great team effort. I'm in awe of Claybricks finding another artist from the same year no less.
