Thanks
Thank you very much kmmy for those lyrics.
I specifically did not ask for the English translation because I wanted to take a try at it myself. If somebody who knows could take a look and see if I am correct I would be very grateful.
Here it is:
At Hidden Seashore
At the hidden (or secret) seashore and white dove
We thirst but the water is tasteless
I go to the light sand and write her name
A beautiful breeze blows away the writing
With heart, with breath, desire, and passion
We pack up our life's mistakes and change our life
So, how close did I come? Thanks for taking a look and for your comments. I know I don't have it exact and would like any corrections.
Xaralambe
Nice try Xaralambe!
There are already 2 translations about Seferis' "Άρνηση":
1) Panselinos' one -> http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/gr...tml#post258325
2) And one in stixoi.info -> http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...ails&t_id=1125
I prefer Panselinos' even though I would change the second line to
which is white like a pigeon rather than white like a pigeon
But this is what I would prefer and not a mistake in Panselinos' translation !
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"
Thank you Amethystos, nice to see I wasn't too far off. I have been studying my Greek and translating these songs is very helpful in understanding the flow and nuances of the language. Hopefully some day after my Greek has improved I will be able to give back to this forum what others have so freely given to me.
