hey guys, can i have the translation to german of this song of Maraiah please???

No I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way
    The story goes

You always smile but in your eyes
    Your sorrow shows
    Yes it shows

    No I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
    When I had you there
But then I let you go
    And now it's only fair
That I should let you know
    What you should know

    I can't live
    If living is without you
    I can't live
    I can't give anymore
    I can't live
    If living is without you
    I can't give
    I can't give anymore

    Without you - Mariah Carey
    Ohne dich

No I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way
    The story goes

Nein, ich kann diesen Abend nicht vergessen
Oder dein Gesicht, als du gingst
Aber ich glaube, das ist genau so
    Wie es sein muss

You always smile but in your eyes
    Your sorrow shows
    Yes it shows

Du lächelst immer, aber in deinen Augen
    Schimmert die Sorge
    Ja, das sieht man

    No I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
    When I had you there
But then I let you go
    And now it's only fair
That I should let you know
    What you should know

Nein, ich kann die Zukunft nicht vergessen
Wenn ich an all meine Sorgen denke
Wenn ich dich bei mir haben könnte
Aber dann ließ ich dich gehen
Und jetzt ist es nur fair
    Dass ich dich wissen lasse
    Was du wissen solltest

    I can't live
    If living is without you
    I can't live
    I can't give anymore
    I can't live
    If living is without you
    I can't give
    I can't give anymore

    Ich kann nicht leben
Wenn das hieße, ohne dich zu leben
    Ich kann nicht leben
    Ich kann nicht mehr weitermachen
    Ich kann nicht leben ...

Oh but be careful, it's not always translated 100% literal But feel free to ask questions if something seems strange to you or you want to have one phrase translated more literal than we did.

If you want, I can give you a literal translation, but it won't make as much sense as the one given by Steena. It'll give you an idea of the differences between German grammar and English grammar.

Wenn du willst, ich kann dir geben ein genau translation, doch es wird nicht soviel Sinn machen als die translation vergeben von Steena. Es werde dir geben eine Idee der Gegensätze zwischen Deutschgrammatik und Englischgrammatik.

This is wrong. Nevertheless, I'll highlight the differences of German grammar. I'm going to keep in the grammatical cases because if I don't, I will lose the meaning of the sentence entirely. The only thing that won't change is word order. Still. This is /wrong/. Do not take on German sentences like this while learning them except in order to try and compare meanings. Also, there's no guarantee on my /own/ Grammar, because I'm still learning. But the word order here is mostly a big no-no. Tahira gave the correct way on that.

Sorry Lazydriver, I might not stick to "normal" sentence structure but that's just normal when doing translations. Meanwhile, your translation aka "Nein ich kann nicht vergiss diesen Abend ..." does have major grammar problems For instance the first line would be "Ich kann diesen Abend nicht vergessen".

You can get the gist of things when learning from songs, but you still need to pick up the basics from a grammar book or something similar.

Oh, I think what you do (changing word order) is a /good idea/. You can't translate something effectively if you stick with the word order of the original language. I only made the translation to highlight the differences between English grammar (with my translation) and German translation (the one you made).

And /exactly/. You can't make a sentence like "Nein ich kann nicht vergiss deisen Abend' because it doesn't make sense in German . And you can't make sentences like, "I can this evening not forget" in English either .

thanks to both of you,Lazydriver : i got your point, word orders in german is not the same in english,in german i notice that the verb always comes at the end of the sentence,it's kind of a game to me and i like it,the thing is that german takes a little from every language i know, english ,french and turkish(verb in the end)

In a normal sentence structure the verb should be at the second place in the sentence: Subject, verb, object.
Ich gehe nach Hause. -> I go home
Ich kann diesen Abend nicht vergessen.
Ich male ein Bild. -> I draw a picture

We've once collected some language basics at the beginning of this thread: http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/le...-language.html
Maybe some of it is handy for you now.

When an adverb (answers question how?, in what way?, when?, where?) is first in the sentence the subject and verb switch:

Heute Abend gehe ich ins Kino - Tonight I will go to the movies

In Deutschland leben ungefaehr 20 Milliarden Menschen - About 20 billion people live in Germany

If I am wrong please correct me

    I think it's:

Heute Abend soll ich ins Kino gehen. (Tonight, I shall go to the movies. Literally: Today's Evening shall I in the Cinema to go)

And I think the second one is, "In Deutschland es gibt über 20 Milliarden die da wohnen."
