Question Yıldız Tilbe - Karpuz Getir Yiyeyim (TR > EN)

    to please

Yıldız Tilbe - Karpuz Getir Yiyeyim:

    Karpuz getir yiyeyim
    Aç odanı gireyim
    Uyan uyan sar beni
    Yar olduğun bileyim

    Karpuzlar yenmez oldu
    Sıcaktan benzim soldu
    Bir yar sevdim o dahi
    Gitti de gelmez oldu

    Karpuzun al dilimi
    Nettin benim yârimi
    Gülümü koklayanlar
    Göze alsın ölümü

    Karşıda elmalıklar
    Suda oynar balıklar
    Ne böyle sevdalar
    Ne böyle ayrılıklar

    Karşıdan görünürsün
    Çarşafa bürünürsün
    İpek çarşaf içinde
    Ne güzel görünürsün

    Karpuz kestim sulandı
    Yedim başım dolandı
    Kırılası kollarım
    İnce bele dayandı

    Karşıdan görünürsün
    Çarşafa bürünürsün
    İpek çarşaf içinde
    Ne güzel görünürsün

*this are special lyrics in this kinds of songs just to make rythm, this is type of song that we call''türkü'' turkish folk music..each city of turkey has songs of its own and the writers try to use the special thngs for the city in the song like this song is from my city Diyarbakır which is famous for watermelons that is why writer made rythm with watermelon..hope it is clear believe me some folk songs even hard for people from turkey to understand them..even harder to translate if anypart not clear ask mei mean in the end it is song from a lover to the girl he loves

    Question

Thank you very much for the very interesting explanations and of course for translation.

In Germany in the 19th century most lyrics of folk songs were revised or substituted by intellectuals (Dichter und Denker), who removed all salacious elements (only few exceptions as "Dat du min leevsten büst") and implemented in each (!) song religiousness - the same happened with our fairy tales. So there are no songs in the world more boring than German folk songs.

I really really enjoy the style of Türkü lyrics, wherein codes are used (karpuz) in order to smuggle "flesh and blood" in proper songs. Very nice mix!
