Fairouz - Sanarji3aou yaouman

Hi,

I need help to correct the translation of Sanarji3aou youman for Fairouz. A nice song about the return of the Palestinians to their homeland. The first part was totally translated by me and the other parts were based on two different translation that I’ve got.

Flocks of swallows returned to the old windows

رعيان التلال عادوا إلي البيوت المطمئنة

Highland shepherds returned to the safe houses

و أبت اليمائم إلي الاعشاش الجبلية
W abat alyama2ym ila ala3shash al jabalyea
And the doves went back to the nests on the hills

أترى نرجع مثل سنونو
A toura narji3aou mithla sounounou
Will we, by any chance, return as the swallows did ?

مثل راعٍ جبلي مثل شراعي عائد
Mithla ra3in jabali mithal shira3iin 3a2yd
Such as a mountain shepherd and a sail that is returning

أترى نرجع نرجع نرجع؟
A toura narji3ou narji3ou narji3ou
Will we return by any chance ?



سنرجع يوماً الى حينا و نغرق في دافئات المنى
Sanarji3ou yaouman ila 7ayyna wa naghraqou fi daf2yat almouna
Some day, we will return to our village and drown in the warmth of hope

سنرجع مهما يمر الزمان و تنأى المسافات ما بيننا
Sanarji3ou mahma yamourou zzaman wa tana2a almasafatou ma baynana
we willl return no matter how much time will pass and distances grow between us

فيا قلب مهلآ و لا ترتم على درب عودتنا موهنا
Faya qalbou mahla wa la tartami 3ala darbi 3aoudatina mou hana
So Oh heart..... slow down and do not throw yourself on the path of our return which is not here

يعز علينا غداً أن تعود رفوف الطيور و نحن هنا
Ya3ouzzou 3alayna ghadan in ta3oud roufoufou ttouyouri wa na7nou houna
It's distressing for us to see the birds returning while we stay here



هنالك عند التلال تلال تنام و تصحو على عهدنا
Hounalika 3ainda ttelali telaloun tenam wa tas7ou 3ala 3ahdina
There over the hills, there are hills which sleep and awake on our promises,

و ناس هم الحب أيامهم هدوء انتظار شجي الغنا
Wa nasoun houmou l7oubb ayyamouhoum houdoun intizari shajyaou lghina
And a people full of love who spend their days quietly waiting for mellow songs

ربوع مدى العين صفصافها على كل ماء وهى فانحنى
Roubou3oun mada l3ayni Safsafuha 3ala kulli main wa haa fa2n7ana
Meadows filled as far as the eyes can see with willows bending over the water

تعب الظهيرات في ظلها عبير الهدوء و صفو الهنا
Ta3oubou zzouhayratou fi zulha 3Abeer alhoudou wa safou alhana
The languorous shadow of the noons perfumes the stillness and brighten the happiness



سنرجع خبرني العندليب غداة التقينا على منحنى
Sanarji3ou khabbarani el3andaleeb ghadat altaqayna 3ala moun7ana
we willl return ,the nightingale asserted me after we met on a slope

بأن البلابل لما تزل هناك تعيش بأشعارنا
Bi2an el balabila lamma tazal hounaka ta3eeshou bi2asha3rina
Those t nightingales still live there in our poems

و مازال بين تلال الحنين و ناس الحنين مكان لنا
Wa ma zala bayna telali el 7aneen wa nasi el 7aneen makanoun lana
And there will be a place for us among those yearning hills and people


فيا قلب كم شردتنا رياح
Faya qalboun kam sharadatna rya7 ta3ala sanarji3ou
So heart, no matter how many winds have dispersed us

تعال سنرجع هيا بنا
Ta3ala sanarji3ou haya bina
Come on ,we will come back. Let's go

موهنا: It means tired or languorous

تعب الظهيرات في ظلها عبير الهدوء و صفو الهنا
تعب: means to quaff

غداة: means at early morning

Hopefully I'll have a profound look at it later

I think there's no need to add "by chance".

I added "any chance" just to emphasize a possibility of something happening, especially something that she wants (the return).

2)موهنا: It means tired or languorous

So can I say : So Oh heart..... slow down and do not throw yourself on the path of our languorous return

3) تعب الظهيرات في ظلها عبير الهدوء و صفو الهنا
تعب: means to quaff

A big mistake lol. So the root is عُبّ instead of تعب.
My attempt now :
ربوع مدى العين صفصافها على كل ماء وهى فانحنى
تعب الظهيرات في ظلها عبير الهدوء و صفو الهنا
Meadows filled as far as the eyes can see with willows bending over the water
And under the shadows of the willows, the middays quaff the aroma of the quietness and the purity of the happiness.

4)
غداة: means at early morning

I agree with you but I thought that it should be better not to translate it just to shorten the verse and it is not important to the meaning of the verse

1) Ok I'm sorry it seems that I haven't noticed 'any'

2) To be honest موهنا is an adv. but I can't generate it from these adj.
But its an adv for the "heart" and not the road or path
أصل الجملة: ياقلب لا ترتم موهناً
If it was adv for the path then the sentence will be
لا ترتم على درب عوتنا الموهن

3) Yes great translation "thumbs up"
3abba with fat7a not kasrah, to be more accurate.
Oops! I haven't noticed that the lyrics was written as في ظلها, it should be في ظله

4) I agree with you that the timing of their meeting is not that much important.

- و ناس هم الحب أيامهم هدوء انتظار شجي الغنا

I was thinking about the importance of translating the word غداة and adding it in the translation, I felt that it's important because it makes you imagine the scene and merge with it. Otherwise if someone is only looknig for plain translation, or translation and only translation it doesn't matter whether to add it or not
