Yazdıgım oykude iyi kötü adamdı was translated as He was the man of the story I wrote

Besides the fact that I think the word should be "öyküde", to me it seems like this line says something like "he was the good and bad man in the story I wrote" (In the album version of the song he says "iyi ve kötü adamdı"). Or is my idea an over-literal translation and the original translation tells it better?

Thank you! I like it to say "He was the good and bad man..." It makes the relationship between child/father more complex (and more honest); the father was not always the hero, was not always good. And yet, he was still so loved and still meant so much to the child.
